DAVID WALTER ST. HILAIRE

September 30, 1944 - February 19, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father on February 19, 2025. He is loved and will be missed.

David was born in Winnipeg on September 30, 1944. He grew up in the Weston area, where he met several friends with whom he stayed in touch his entire life. He met his future wife Lynn in 1965, and they were married in 1968. They had a son, Andrew, in 1971 followed by a daughter, Genevieve, in 1975. Our family lived primarily in Winnipeg, with a short time spent in Altona in the early 1970’s. In the early 1980’s, with the help of many friends and family members, David built a cottage at Long Lake in Nopiming Park. Many happy family memories were made there, and it was David’s pride and joy.

In his working life, David was an upholsterer by trade and spent his last number of working years at the Rehabilitation Center for Children in Winnipeg, fabricating assistive devices for children with mental and physical challenges.

In his retirement years, David worked tirelessly renovating and maintaining a small home in the neighbourhood where he grew up, until his declining health led him to be admitted first to Misericordia Hospital Transitional Care, and ultimately to Riverview Health Center where he lived out his last few years.

We would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the care and kindness they gave to our Dad. We would also like to send a very heartfelt thank you to his friends both old and new who took the time to keep in touch, and keep him company. He treasured your visits, letters and cards.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. If so moved, please consider donating in his memory to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation (Winnipeg), Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation, or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

David’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section of this page.
