MAVIS DALE STAMM

(Née BARLIN)

August 2, 1944 – May 12, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mavis Stamm on May 12, 2025 at the age of 80 years old.

She is survived by her son Derrick (Karen); grandchildren, Paige (Craig) and Adam (Rachel); sisters, Leahetta (Jack) and Syril; brother Sam (Diane); and sister-in-law Shirley.

She was predeceased by her first husband Ronald; second husband Lorne; and her parents, Oscar and Sylvia.

Mavis enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and appreciated the time spent with everyone. She had a great smile and sense of humour – though sometimes she would do or say something and you weren’t quite sure whether to laugh or not!

She had an active lifestyle and was always visiting friends and family, shopping, going to the casino, or out for lunches and dinners. She especially enjoyed the weekend getaways to the cottage at Lac du Bonnet. We would also like to give a special thank you to Helen and Garth who took her everywhere, she always had a great time going out for meals or to the casino with them.

Travel was also a much-loved pastime for Mavis. Over the course of her lifetime, she took a few memorable trips to Hong Kong, Las Vegas, and she spent several winters in Phoenix, Arizona with her sister Leahetta, and brother-in-law Jack.

We will miss her presence at Christmas dinners where she will be fondly remembered for gifting everyone pyjamas and socks! She loved this time of year, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mavis’ name to the Winnipeg Humane Society

Mavis’ family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Your mom was one of a kind, and we all loved her so much!

She had a heart of gold and we all enjoyed her company.

I had the privilege and honour of working with her and sharing many good times together!

Mavis just allowed people to be themselves. It was such a gift.!

You are forever cherished

Ahh Mavis… you certainly left a mark on those who knew you and you will be missed …. Are already missed! A great listener (and talker too) you gave great advice. Always generous, honest, and welcoming, it was a pleasure popping over for coffee (never on Thursday though – Casino) and chit chatting over “whatever”. We went on a few drives, some lunches at the Pancake House and earlier on we took a weekend trip to Fargo to go shopping (actually Thrifting). We hit almost all the thrift stores and even went to a Casino where Mavis got a fantastic deal on a room for the night. It was a good trip! Mavis loved Fries and Strawberry Milkshakes so it was easy to know what to bring when she was unable to get out. I was amazed that she always remembered and called me on my birthday “Happy Birthday Ursh” … I will miss that call. A few times when Mavis called and I wasn’t home, my husband ended up having great conversations with her – he enjoyed her calls and said she was quite “chatty”! My Deepest Sympathies to Derrick and Family. Mavis always spoke with pride about her family, and Derrick was the BEST SON EVER!

Rest Easy My Friend …

Condolences to the Barlin family as well as the family and friends of Mavis. Cherish the memories. We grew up living next door to the Barlins. The Cotton family valued the Barlins as great neighbours.

Auntie Mavis was so awesome! Whenever we had the chance to sit and chat on the phone, we could go for hours! Laughing and catching up since the last phone call. In the earlier years, we went shopping in the States, we stayed for weekends at the cabin, and had our weekly visits back in the day when Mavis and Lorne came by every Thursday evening for our weekly catch up and yak session. I will miss you so much Mavis. She always talked so highly of her family and especially her new great grandkids. We truly will miss her so much. Our deepest condolences to Derrick and family.

Mavis and I met when we both were 14 ,we immediately became friends,we lived on the same street just a few houses apart.

There are so many memories and the stupid situations we got ourselves into,if our parents knew we would have been grounded till we got married.

We had a lot of fun, went fishing,to the pup to hear different singers and the guys liked the go go girls, went to socials at Lord Roberts community club, had dinners together one dinner was a disaster the chicken was a stewing chicken do we had sandwiches and beer, the other one at her house burned because we were busy smoking and yapping, good times.

Too many memories and stories to share.Mavis was my BFF.

Rest in peace my friend, love you.

It was almost 58 years ago that Tony Yeung and I met Mavis, Ron and Derrick when we moved into their house as a boarder. Right from the beginning, Mavis and Ron treated us as part of their family. We have met many of their family members and friends as well. We are always thankful for their hospitality making us feel their home as our home that was thousands of miles away in Hong Kong. We became close friends. Although we have moved away, we kept in touch with Mavis. I must be fate that brought me into town and I was able to see her in the hospital last Thursday. Mavis: May you rest in peace.

There are no words that will express how much I will miss Mavis. Although in the last frw years our visits mostly consisted of "phone calls', we stayed close.

Mavis was more thsn a sister-in-law, we were friends and confidents. We met in our late teens and shared the good times and the bad. She had a quirky sense of humour and was not afraid to say what she thought.

Derrick she was do proud of you and loved Paige and her great grandchildren so much.

My heartfelt condolences to you Derrick, Paige, Adam, Leahetta, Syril, Sam and families.

Keep her memories in your back pocket, take them out and remember her with love. ❤️

I remember when I was a little girl and our family would visit Auntie would let me brush her long black hair. Her and my Mom would have coffee at the kitchen table and I would brush her hair, braid it, put it in pony tail ect. always such an awesome Aunt, so easy going.

Dani and I will miss our visits as Auntie Mavis had such a vivacious personality, great sense of humour and addictive laugh.

Such a beautiful unique person♥️

Derrick, Paige, Adam, Leahetta, Syril & Sam we send our deepest condolences.
