MARIE-ANGE ("MARY") STANFORD

November 20, 1926 - September 10, 2022

Surrounded by her loving family, Marie-Ange (Mary) Beatrice Stanford passed away on September 10, 2022 at the age of 95.

She was born in Saskatchewan to Rose and Frederic Belanger. Due to her mother’s illness, at the young age of 12, Mary was like a mother to her 6 brothers and sister. She was such a kind and loving sister. Later, she lived with her husband Ray in Flin Flon where they enjoyed camping and fishing with their daughters. In 1957, the family moved to Lenswood, MB to start a new chapter of their life on the farm. Mary quickly learned to not run away from the cows and soon became a skilled milker. She could often be seen pitching bails and shearing sheep. She carted and spun the wool and knitted numerous mittens and socks to keep everyone warm.

They retired from farming in their early fifties and moved to Birch River, MB where they were heavily involved in the senior centre. Mary continued her industrious work habits by creatively making care bears, lamb chops and puppets for the little ones in the community. Mary could always be seen with a four-legged friend close by. She often went for long walks with her good friend, Dorothy and puppy as well as biked around town with her dog in the front basket.

Mary always had a positive attitude and could always see the good in everyone. She took the time to listen and lend a helping hand. Mary made many friends over her years and was loved by her caregivers. She had a wonderful sense of humour and laughed and smiled until the end.  She deeply loved her family.

Marie-Ange was also deeply loved by her family and will be forever in our thoughts. Mary’s family is grateful for the care she received at both the Swan Valley Lodge and Pinecrest Home for the Aged.

Mary's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

What an amazing life. I know she was a very special grandmother to Sandra. I hope the memories always bring a smile.
