PAUL VINCENT STANLEY

February 21, 1935 – April 10, 2026

Paul passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2026, surrounded by his family.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was predeceased by his mother and father Marguerite and John; brothers, Gregory, Michael, David, Peter; and sister Marcia.

His memory will be cherished by his wife Judy; children, Christopher, Stephen, Michele (Roy), Eileen (Alvin), and Theresa (Chris); and stepchildren, Linda and Colin (Melinda).

He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Jonathon (Vicky), Andrew (Sam), Alyssa, Paul (Jessica), Katherine, Madeline, Annika (Brock), Sydney (Cole), James and Matthew; along with his three great grandchildren, Mason, Noah, and Chase.

As a young man, Paul worked for the CN Rail but soon realized that his heart belonged to sales. He joined his father working at Eaton’s for several years. He also spent many years working in the wholesale fabric industry, and then decided to venture out on his own and opened his business West Textiles in 1974. Over the years, the business grew across Canada as he developed and maintained lasting relationships with customers and suppliers alike. Paul’s enthusiasm and work ethic inspired many. Not many people can say they worked and enjoyed it until the ripe age of 87. Paul was happy to take part in the 50th anniversary celebration of West Textiles in November of 2024. It was a proud moment for him.

As a father he was second to none. He was always present for his children and went out of his way to create memories for us. There was the road trip with five kids to Vancouver camping along the way, a fishing trip to Dauphin Manitoba with all of us in the boat (Theresa in a playpen), and surprising us with a sheep dog puppy that he brought home from a business trip in Saskatchewan. He taught Chris and Steve to drive at the farm while making an adventure out of it. Remembering The Great Green Grey Greasy Lim Popo River. As a single dad he worked tirelessly but made sure we were happy and cared for. Our adventures continued when he found a very remote property in northern Ontario and decided to build a family cottage there. Over the years many great memories have been forged for all of us and our friends at Red Deer Lake. It was one of his favourite places in the world. At one point Paul was learning to fly an airplane and took us all up in the yellow bird for a ride. He made sure we had swimming lessons, and even downhill skiing lessons. He would quietly slide you a 50 or bring you a baguette just to let you know he loved you. He would call us on a Sunday to make sure we were all alright. Our dad gave us many gifts. The gift of grace, nature, music, laughter, and of course, making really great pancakes.

Paul met the love of his life and soulmate Judy at a Christmas party he attended with his sister Marcia. They married in 1983 and shared a lifetime of memories. Their love of travelling took them sailing many times in the Caribbean and throughout the Virgin Islands. This was a favourite trip along with a lifetime friend Captain Ed Sacher. Paul and Judy loved to travel. They visited many European countries (Portugal being their favourite). Their love of golfing and downhill skiing took them on numerous trips across Canada. They also loved a good road trip down to Arizona and Palm Springs. Paul and Judy enjoyed hosting many family gatherings in their home in St. Vital. They loved spending time with their grandchildren, taking them on outings, having piano lessons, or simply some great walks through St. Vital Park. Paul and Judy had a beautiful relationship based on genuine love and mutual respect. They created a role model not just for their family but for everyone they knew.

Paul was a great man who lived with integrity and grace. He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.

A come and go celebration of life will be held at West Textiles, 803 Erin St. Winnipeg, May 9th, 1:00-4:00pm.

Our family would like to thank the staff at the Beacon Hill Lodge for their care over the last few months. We would also like to acknowledge the amazing and compassionate staff on the 8th floor Palliative care unit at the St. Boniface Hospital that looked after Paul and all of us in his last few days.

If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s society of Manitoba

We wish we would of met him. Our daughter, Christy, talks of him, through her knowledge gained of the family and the beautiful work environment he created at West Textiles. A true legacy for an individual well respected, that Theresa now manages with the same grace and kindness. Always look forward to being met at the door by Dexter & Sam. Thoughts and prayers are with the family.
