Mario Steinig
MARIO STEINIG
April 9, 1969 - November 13, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mario at the age of 52.
He will be remembered, missed and loved always by his wife Laura; daughters Sarah (Shawn) and Hanna; Father Reinhard; siblings, Petra, Wolfgang, Marina, Silke and Doreen; Mother-in-law Susan Nikkel, and extended family and friends in Germany and Canada. Mario was predeceased by his Mother Margot and Father-in-law Winston Nikkel.
Mario was born in Suhl, Germany. He grew up in the village of Marisfeld. He was working in Shilo with the German military in 1995 when he met and fell in love with his ‘Darling’ Laura. They married two years later and lived in Winnipeg for 6 years, but the city life wasn’t for Mario. They had a home built in Sanford where they met and kept many special friends. Mario had always dreamt of having a hobby farm. In 2009 the family moved to Brunkild where Mario renovated a farmhouse and made a beautiful home for them.
Mario was well liked by all. He was always up for a good time with rock and roll music and some beers with his ‘brothers’, or a long talk over a meal with friends. This being his nature he was devastated when a family trip to Germany in 2020 was cancelled due to Covid. But, was excited about the plans for the family to go in 2022. He was an extremely hard worker. When he moved to Canada he started as a commercial roofer, soon became a Foreman and then Field Supervisor. He took great pride in his work. Same for his projects at home, as they were never ending with him. Before he had finished up one task, he was already planning the next one or five in his mind. Although that didn’t stop him from always lending a helping hand; whether that was working overtime on the weekends, helping others with their projects or needs, giving advice or just there to put a smile on your face. He enjoyed being silly to make people laugh, especially his family. He was a man with a heart of gold. He was proud of the veggies he grew every summer. When he cooked it would be enough to feed a small army. He had to make sure he had made enough to share his soups or meals with many, especially his mother-in-law.
He worked very hard to make sure his family never did without. He loved and adored his dogs. Lucie, Lenny and Tyson would be up there to meet him at the Rainbow Bridge.
The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support. We really appreciate everyone that has been here for us during this extremely difficult time.
Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date.
‘Remember me with a smile today,
I was not one for tears.
Reflect instead on memories
Of all our happy years.
Recall to mind the way I spoke,
All the things I said.
My strength, my stance, the way I laughed.
Remember these instead.’
