Alexandr "Sasha" Stelsovsky, age 81, passed away peacefully at 9:30pm on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Riverview Health Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in the presence of his wife Jana Janicek.

Sasha was born on September 27, 1941, in Prague, Czech Republic, to parents Bozena and Karel Stelsovsky. He was a cautious but curious person and was known for his personable, light-hearted, and social nature.

Sasha worked as a bus and tram operator and ambulance driver in the Czech Republic before he sought political asylum from communism in Canada in 1968. In Winnipeg, he worked as a respiratory technologist at Misericordia Hospital until retirement.

Sasha presciently introduced computers to the family which led to a lifelong passion that was shared with the children. Solitaire was Sasha's favorite game, and he loved to do his own taxes and help others with theirs. He was also a passionate traveler who enjoyed experiencing different cultures. Sasha and Jana's favorite place to visit was French Polynesia, especially Tahiti and Bora Bora. He liked driving and took his family on many road trips across North America, including Yucatan Mexico, Florida, and the Rocky Mountains which was a cherished formative experience for his family.

Sasha is survived by his wife, Jana, her sons Richard and Arthur (Tara), his grandchildren Corwyn and Arwen. His son Philip and grandson Jaxon. His son Alex, granddaughter Katka, great-grandchildren Anna, Matej, Jakub, granddaughter Lucka, great-grandchildren Alzbeta and Eliska.

Sasha's memory will be cherished by his beloved best friend, Ziggy (his dog). He leaves behind a legacy of friendship and kindness, not only to his family but also to his good friends: Jiri Jaterka, Jozef and Silvia Sedlak, Josef Silha, George and Zlata Novak.

A celebration of Sasha's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church). In lieu of flowers or gifts, we encourage you to make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Sasha's life touched many. He will be missed by all who knew him. He has gone for his last walk, and his memory will live on forever. Rest in peace, dear Sasha. You will always be remembered and loved.

My deepest sympathies.  Although it was usually brief, I enjoyed talking to Sasha when I came to call on Arthur, while we were in high school/university.  I loved his laugh.
