MIRIAM LEE STERMSCHEG

October 9, 1953 - June 3, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Miriam Stermscheg, who departed from this world on June 3, 2023. She was born on October 9, 1953 and was 69 years old at the time of her passing.

Miriam lived a life filled with both joy and difficulties. She got to see much of the world as a child and teen, being the child of an army doctor. As a young woman she dreamed of flying and became the Maritimes’ first female to achieve her helicopter pilot’s license. Due to the culture of the male dominated industry at the time, she could not get a job. She moved to Manitoba and became an Electronics Technician debugging electronic circuit boards and other technical work at several electronics firms.

In Winnipeg she met her husband Andy, and had two beautiful children. She was a devoted and loving mother. In 1988 she was diagnosed with chronic progressive MS, which slowly took her health these past 35 years. Despite this, she maintained a positive attitude and didn’t let this horrible disease get her down, finding joy in music, reading and her grandkids.

Miriam is survived by her husband Andy; her sisters, Eileen (Sean) and Jean; her children, Karen (Nelson) and Lee (Adrienne); and her grandchildren, Ford, Chip, and Jasper who will cherish her memory and continue to honor her legacy. She was predeceased by her sister Theodora, her father Alexander Campbell, and her mother Miriam ‘Bunny’ Campbell.

Miriam will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness and stories and will be remembered for her smile and silent laughter.

A celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, June 7 at NKMB Church located at 1315 Gateway Road (in the multi-purpose room), where family and friends will gather to honor and pay tribute to Miriam.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Independent Living Resource Centre (ILRC) in memory of Miriam Stermscheg.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out with condolences, support, and love during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion are deeply appreciated.

May Miriam's soul now be running with joy in eternity, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.

Miriam’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

My thoughts are with you in your loss. Over 30 yrs ago I was Miriam’s cleaning lady. We became friends and she attended some services of the Fellowship of Christians I am apart of.. we didn’t keep in touch over these years since then but she left a deep impression on my young life of her courage and determination to face the challenges that came with her MS. Feel so thankful for you all to have had her with you until now. With care and sympathy, Ruth Howard

Heartfelt condolences to the family. I knew Miriam while working at ILRC and we spent time together going out or just chatting. She always spoke so proudly about her family and I admired her passionate spirit.  May the Lord bless and keep her family in His abiding love.

What a beautiful photobiography of a life with obvious challenges, but a life well-loved and lived.  My love, thoughts and prayers to Karen, Nelson and family; and to Jean and Eileen.

My eyes welled up watching Min's Photo-biography (twice).  My heart and prayers are with you Karen and Nelson and your boys, Lee and Adrienne and Andy and Min's two beautiful sisters, Eileen and Jean.  I am so glad you are all together to celebrate Min's life.  I will always cherish my memories of when Min and Raj visited our home in Nortondale, New Brunswick.  There was lots of laughter and we never ate better thanks to Raj's supreme cooking.  You will always remain in my heart Min.
