FRANCISCUS "FRANK" ANTONIUS MARIA STORIMANS

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved, Frank, at the age of 64 years. After a four-year, hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer, Frank succumbed to his illness on the morning of November 30th at the Health Science Centre.

Frank is survived by his children, Jared (Destinee), Tyrell (Adi), and Brit (Samara), his brothers Roland (Marilyn), and Mark, nephew Kevin (Laura), and nieces Kayla (Eric) and Kelsey (Matt). Frank also leaves behind his much-loved grandchildren, Marilyn, Ivy, Forrest, and Benny.

Born in Tilburg, Netherlands, Frank moved with his family to Winnipeg in 1961. His family owned and operated The Belgium Pastry Shop for many years. He spent many summers on the beach in West Hawk Lake with family and friends. Frank grew up in the Seven Oaks area of Winnipeg and attended Tec. Voc. High School, where his love of theatre and broadcasting developed. As a young man, he worked the morning show for CKJS, where he enjoyed creating the setlists for the show’s listeners.

Frank had many hobbies which included acting, screenplay writing, reading, sports, enjoying the outdoors, and always making time for a corny joke. Frank was active throughout his life and had a love of sports. He enjoyed playing hockey, training in Kung Fu, and loved cheering on his sons' and stepson’s football teams, and coaching the North Winnipeg Nomads. In 2010, Frank returned to his love of acting and took a number of acting classes through the Acting Studio. He also loved his time with the Fringe production of Death Farmer.

Frank loved the outdoors and had the most adventurous spirit. He spent much of his free time skiing, hiking, and mountain climbing in the Rockies. He wasn’t afraid of taking risks and was always planning his next big venture. Frank loved being in the mountains. Two of his favourite mountains to ski were Sunshine Village and Golden-Revelstoke. He hoped to one day retire to Golden-Revelstoke, so his kids and grandkids had a place to visit and share in his love of the mountains. Frank also had a love for mountaineering and sharing stories of his big adventures. One of his most memorable climbs was Mount Aberdeen where he did a nearly 18-hour hike to the summit and back only to return to a dead car.

Frank worked for several years as a heavy equipment operator in Northern Alberta.  He met many amazing friends during his time there. He also met Linda and Ruby while he was working for E-construction, and they soon became close friends and roommates. Frank considered them his honorary sisters.

In early 2020, when Frank was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he was told he had only 9 months to live. Over the past three years, he was able to see three additional grandchildren come into the world, which was a gift that he fought like hell for. He showed incredible strength and truly beat all odds.

A Celebration of Frank's life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 603 Wellington Crescent.
