GERALD (JERRY) EARNEST STUBBS

November 2, 1949 - October 31, 2019

It is with great sorrow that we announce that our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away on Oct. 31 at the Health Science Centre, two days before his 70th birthday.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 41 years Diane Ooto; daughters Laurelle Stubbs (Kevin) and Karlene Stubbs (Olivia); his precious granddaughters Emma-Grace and Lilly, sisters Gail Hannibal of Kelowna and Vicki Wilson. He will also be missed by his sisters in-law Joy and Ruth Ooto; and brother in-law Ralph Ooto; extended family and numerous friends.

Jerry grew up in Winnipeg, attending Rockwood School, Grant Park and the University of Manitoba. Throughout his career he was involved in the printing industry beginning with his dad on Pembina Hwy. Jerry was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the print business. A true entrepreneur, he owned various franchises, as well as PDQ Printing, Unique Greeting Cards and Nostalgia Foods.

Jerry’s favourite place on earth was his cottage at Jessica Lake surrounded by his family. He was an avid fisherman in his younger years, and knew all the best spots to catch the big ones. He adored his daughters and granddaughters and took such pleasure in them.  Jerry was known for his wicked sense of humour, his love of family, good food, good wine, and good friends.

In accordance with Jerry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Time passes by so quickly, and life throws you a few curves you have to deal with. Before you know it the years have passed and then you suddenly find out about someone you used to know has passed away. I was really stunned to come across this site for a man whom I worked with/for many years ago. So sorry for your loss Diane. Jerry was at times a rather tough nut to crack, he and I shared some great comic times and jokes together at his business. He was a tough negotiator when it came time to price a job, but I learned a lot about the ins and outs of the "print for pay" biz that his stores were involved in. We had some good laughs at some of our "colourful" customers. and Jerry was always ready with a good reply to a tough customer. A smart man who really knew his way around the print business, and I learned a lot of neat tricks which I use to this day. Rest in peace Jerry, and see you on the "plate"...!😆
