OLGA "OLLY" AMILDA SULIPA

December 5, 1931 - February 12, 2023

Olga “Olly” Amilda Sulipa, passed peacefully in Winnipeg with her family at her side, on February 12, 2023 at the age of 91. Predeceased by her husband Walter (2007), Mom is lovingly remembered by her family, children: Doug (Cathy), Dianne (Ron), Dan (Barb), grandchildren: Jazzmyn (Sami) and Reggie, Brandon (Alicia), Alannah, and Graeme, great grandchildren: Connor and Kennedy, and her cherished nieces and nephews and their families.

Olly was Jacob and Mary Yaworski’s second youngest child and was predeceased by her siblings, sisters  Susie, Helen, and Valerie; and brothers Edward, Louis, Henry, Adolph, Edmund, Joseph and Anton.

Mom was born in Canora, Saskatchewan December 5, 1931 and was raised in Rama, Saskatchewan.

In 1949 at age 18 mom moved to Winnipeg to attend secretarial school, a courageous and almost unheard of decision for a young woman at that time. But that was mom, strong and determined. She excelled at the school and got her first job at Addressograph Multigraph where she met the love of her life, her beloved Walter (“Wally”). Mom and Dad were married on July 16, 1955. Their family was all born and raised in Winnipeg.

Mom later worked at Fort Garry Plumbing and Balcaen’s Plumbing and Heating. She was a hard worker and was well liked by her employers and coworkers and formed many friendships through work. After retiring from Balcaen’s mom worked for her son Doug’s business (Comic World) and later at the business’s booth at the Flea Market.

Mom loved to travel and our family  took many vacations all over the USA and Canada each summer as well as regular weekend camping trips, and many long weekend trips to Grand Forks, ND. Mom  loved to visit relatives and have relatives visit with her and her family. Over the years there were countless visits to relatives in Winnipeg and other parts of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and other parts of Canada, and also many visits to Winnipeg from relatives. Mom and Dad’s house was always open for guests.  Mom and Dad loved to have fun and made everyone around them feel so welcomed and loved. All mom’s relatives loved visits to/from Olly and Wally and family.

Mom was very outgoing, sociable and positive. As a result she made many friends and touched many people over the years through her work, family, and social life. She will be missed by many.

Mom was the strongest, most determined, and positive person her family has ever known, and it seemed like she was invincible. Words like can’t were simply not in her vocabulary. She was an absolute solid rock and the world won’t be the same without her. But her memory and inspiration will live on in her family, and to all those who knew her, and will never be forgotten. She showed her love by offering her unwavering support and strength when you needed it. If you needed a hand she was there.

Mom loved people and loved interacting with people. Mom loved being active and on the go. She was active right up to her final days, still working a couple days a week and still getting out and seeing people, family and friends pretty much daily. She had amazing energy, more so than many people younger than her. She loved nothing more than interacting with people and we think that’s what gave her a lot of her energy and joy.

Wally and Olly will be together again, and their love for each other never ending. Mom thanks so much for being a wonderful mother and person, and for being a rock whenever we needed it. We are going to miss you lots, but you will always be with us, and parts of you will live on in us and with everyone you touched. Love always your beloved family.

I’am saddened to learn of Olly’s passing, I would like to thank the family and  this site to put on a beautiful tribute for her. I have met Olly, and   Doug  at Comic world when  my family moved to Winnipeg back in 1977. I would be a regular customer of hers over the years at the flea market, when it came down to bargaining and price negotiations I thought I was good, Olly was the best  The last time I saw her was at the  casino, she loved her Keno machine, it was winter time and slippery out, I told her to take my arm as I walked her  from the front door to her waiting taxi , that was the last time I saw her. May you rest in peace  my friend, journey well! ❤

❤My heart is broken at her passing. Olly was the best. I guess I first met her at Doug Sulipa's Comic World, and had the joy of working in the family basement, finding comics for mail orders, back when Dynasty was a big thing. Though were fun-filled busy times.  She mothered a terrific family. Most recently, she was always able to fulfil my back-order comic requests that she would relay to Doug, and then get back to me. I just loved the sound of her voice on the phone. Olly, I just loved your time, here on Earth, and can't wait to see you, and all of the deals in heaven.  😳

Nicole and I want to express our deepest condolences.  I remember Olly from the time I was only a 12 year old boy coming into the comic shop and seeing her behind the counter.  She never slowed down and was sharp as a tack!  If you were a collector in Winnipeg then you knew Olly.  She always spoke with pride about her family.

i am so sorry to hear of Olly's passing. my parents were Nina and Ken Hogue, and i remember socializing as a families together many times. it was always a treat to get together with Olly and Wally, as  they, Doug, Diane and Dan were really kind to me and my parents. Olly had a really fun loving personality if my memory serves me well! Our families went camping together in Ontario *Red Lake?* when i was really young. Another time i recall sitting in the family basement where Doug introduced me to the magic of Eric Clapton's Leyla. My sincere condolences to your family during this difficult time of loss. May her spirit along with your Dad's always be with you❤
