Katsu Suzuki, 97, passed away peacefully at her home on June 3, 2026.
Katsu was a pioneer member of the Soka Gakkai International in Winnipeg. She came to Canada over 50 years ago to share Nichiren Buddhism with others. She will be remembered for her fighting spirit and her personal motto, “Never give up.”
Outside of her Buddhist community, Katsu was also a longtime member of the Japanese Cultural Association of Manitoba. She especially enjoyed participating in the karaoke group, where she built many lasting friendships and brought joy to those around her with her warm spirit and love of music.
Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Katsu are warmly invited to join us in celebrating her remarkable life.

Katsu will be fondly remebered by her contant encouragement of my Buddjlhist practice.
i will always remember when i bought my Budsadan (stores our Buddhist Gohonzon).
she asked me how much it cost. I told her 500$. ""Ooooh", she said approvingly. "How much you chant?"she asked in her thick Japanese accent.
"2 hours a day", I replied proudly.
She constantly said, " Chant to Gohonzon", as if it was an order!!
Those early days were humble beginnings for me and so when I could afford a 500$ Budsadan, it was considered a huge "Benefit".
She marvelled at how much I chanted.
I will miss you Katsu 🙏
