CLARK CHARLES ANTHONY SYDOR

June 08, 1961 - November 27, 2022

Clark, with a joyous and gracious heart, passed away peacefully at Riverview hospital on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

He leaves behind his mother Hilda Sydor (née LaFreniere); sister Nancy Penny; and brother Bob. He is predeceased by his father Peter; brother Richard, nephew Naron Penny and brothers-in-law Ron Penny and Donald Neiser.

Clark was a very unique and special individual. For many years as a youngster, he was in and out of the hospital with what was diagnosed as a seizure condition. This made for some challenges for Clark as he was growing up but it did not stop him from many accomplishments.

He was a very determined fellow, and despite the odds, he acquired his grade 12 diploma in 2001 at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. A highlight there was his excellent acting in school drama productions. He also attended St. Anne’s school, St. James Collegiate, and Linwood school.

He had a love of beautiful things and became very interested in growing gladiolus, eventually winning many ribbons at shows throughout Winnipeg. He was soon asked to become a judge because of his keen eye and knowledge and was even invited to the USA as a judge. He travelled to Tennessee, New Jersey, Minneapolis, New York State and then back up North to Montreal.

He was very interested in politics and many politicians in Winnipeg knew him personally.

Clark also travelled to British Columbia on several occasions to stay with his second cousin, the great Canadian icon, “Our Pet Juliette” (Juliette Cavazzi) whom he was most proud of. Unforgettable as well, was his trip by himself to Los Angeles California for a convention for Marilyn Monroe whom he loved abundantly.

Clark was also an excellent bridge player and had an uncanny ability to remember all the cards that were played. He also had an amazing memory when it came to Hollywood and could name all the movies, actors and directors nominated for awards. He loved organizing the family Academy Awards night contest every year and delighted in handing out little prizes to the winner.

Clark’s greatest achievement was his care for, and love of his mother. They lived together in the Courts of St James till a few months ago. Even though his mother is over 100 years old, they would go out every day, rain or snow for 5 to six hours at a time. Clark would push her in her wheelchair and they would take the bus all over the city.

Everyone about town seemed to know and love Clark and his mother. They were inseparable. And they were always a joy to be with.

Thank you, Clark for being in our lives.

A funeral celebration will be held at 11:00 am. on Wednesday December 7, 2022 at the St. Ignatius church, 255 Stafford at Corydon Avenue. It will also be live streamed.

Interment will be at a later date.

The family would like to thank the amazing and caring staff at Riverview Hospital, Ward 3 East. I know Clark was truly very grateful for your care and compassion.

Always saw Clark pushing his mom around St. James.  He was a very kind soul with a good word to say to everyone that crossed his path.  My wife and I spoke with him when we saw him on his many sojourns...Rest in Peace...you will be missed.

Back in 1994, Clark and his mom would ride my city bus when I was a bus operator. They were a delight to be around.  I pray you are resting peace Clark.

What a nice man. I also used to see him on my bus with his mother. He was always very kind and gracious. I didn't see him for a few years and then he was on my bus and I noticed the loss of his mother, and his profound sadness. May God Rest His Soul.

I met Clark several years ago at a Linwood School reunion, as he was a friend of my ex husband. And I saw him and his Mom several times on the bus heading downtown. RIP Clark...fly high with the 😇 angels.

So sorry to hear that Clark has passed. He and his Mum rode my bus many times and I got to have many pleasant conversations.  My wife Bev also knew both of them and also sends her condolences.  There is a special place in heaven for sons and daughters who care so deeply for their Mums.  I know Clark did, and will be first in line to help others when they arrive. Rest in Peace Clark.

This is truly sad to learn. I was bus driver for Clark and mom many times as well a passenger on their trips and his devotion to mom was unparalleled and he always shared kind words with fellow passengers. Absolutely a delightful gentleman and a real treasure… RIP Clark

My condolences to Hilda and the family. I met Clark in the "Friends" play at Sturgeon Creek Regional Secondary School. He kept talking to me in the hallways and we became fast friends. I enjoyed playing our favorite card games that lasted most of the evening. We would discuss who would win an Academy Award and make comments on what they were wearing. I would meet up with Clark and Hilda to see the latest movie at the theatre. Clark knew so many people as he was such a friendly, kind person.❤
