MICHAEL TARAPACKI

May 24 1930 – November 15 2023

Our beloved father Michael peacefully passed away at the age of 93 years in Winnipeg.

Michael was predeceased by his parents John and Mary (Balla) Tarapacki, his sisters, Annie, Stella, Iris; brothers Joseph, Peter and Edward.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his three children, Patricia, Gary (Kelly) and Lorica (Gerard) . Grandchildren Christian, Steven (Michelle), Trevor (Yvonne), Nicole (Dan), Wray (Megan), Kurtis (Naomi) and great grandchildren Landon, Hunter, Henry, Gordon, Millie, and Dillon.  All of whom he loved immensely.

He is survived by his sisters, Elsie Cummings, Leona (Peter) Pauk, sister-in-law Phyllis Tarapacki, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael was born and raised in Alberta. In the early 60’s, he moved his young family to Winnipeg to work for the ITT DewLine for many years, finishing his career at Manitoba Hydro.

In his early retirement, Dad would shovel the sidewalks early morning before the caretaker could get to them.  At age 70, Dad learned computer to keep busy preparing Income tax returns.

He was a dedicated Blue Jays and Oilers fan. If they were on tv everything else would have to wait. Michael also enjoyed playing 55+ slow pitch baseball several times a week, hanging up his cleats and glove at the age of 86. He enjoyed playing bridge, dancing, driving taxi, and morning coffee with the guys. Family gatherings were one of the things he held most dear.

We would like to thank Tuxedo Villa Care Home for their exceptional care in his final days.

Cremation has taken place with Ethical Death Care.

In keeping with Michael’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at Buchach Alberta – Spring 2024.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Charity of your choice.

We just learned of Michael’s passing May 26.  We have fond memories of going to old time dances with Michael and his dance partner Lee Creek, who lived in the same block.  Always a kind funny considerate man.  Lost touch as time often forces, but good to hear he lived to a good age.  Sincere sympathies to his family.

Mr. Tarapacki was a very kind man to all of us kids growing up on Harcourt Street. My sincere condolences Gary, Patricia and Lorica.

we first met Mike while visiting my wife, Gloria’s mother in Winnipeg. Mike lived in the same building and he had become a companion of my mother-in-law, Verna Konwalchuk. On Verna’s annual summer trip to our home in Mississauga, we invited Mike to come along. On his second visit he attended my son’s wedding. Mike was a big Bluejay fan, so I took him to a live Bluejay game, which he really enjoyed. Verna unfortunately passed away about seven years ago. So our annual visit to Winnipeg stopped. But our friendship with Mike never stopped. We remained in contact on a monthly basis. I cherish his memory and friendship.

I am saddened to hear of Michael's passing.  He has a heart of gold accompanied by a generous and caring spirit.  I will be forever grateful for the friendship, support and loving care he provided to my mom (Lee), especially in her last year.  My condolences to his family.
