SALLY-RAE (SALLY) TAYLOR

May 27, 1960 - January 26, 2021

It is with heavy sorrow that we announce the passing of Sally-Rae (Sally) Taylor, age 60, on January 26, 2021. It was a peaceful passing, with her daughter Ashley at her side.

Sally fought with everything she had. Staring her cancer down, doing everything in her power to secure as much extra time with her family as possible. Never giving up, even at the end.

Sally is survived by her daughter Ashley Fletcher (née Taylor); and grandsons, Finn and Sebastian. She is also survived by her long-time partner, Peter Druzyk, step-daughters, Jennifer Bernhardt (née Druzyk) and Amanda Druzyk, as well as their families.

"Blue Grandma" as she was lovingly dubbed by her grandsons, always made sure the snacks were stocked and movies were recorded, always ready for a visit from her grand-Gremlins! Together they would watch those movies and eat the snacks, have sleepovers, play computer games, bake cookies, make meatballs, and most importantly; snuggle.

Sally loved to garden, in the years when her body still allowed it. If ever there was a dog nearby, you can bet they had already become best friends. For better or worse, she enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen (it was often for worse, but I learned early to eat it anyway and then tease/critique from a safe distance). She enjoyed trying her hand at home reno projects, as kooky as some of her ideas could be (I may never survive the flashbacks to the lemon-lime striped and sponge painted bathroom).

Sally unfortunately spent the bulk of her last few months hospitalized, which included an extended stay in Concordia Hospital's PANSU Unit. Her daughter is forever grateful for the outstanding care and compassion her mother received at the hands of their phenomenal staff. Far too many to name but know you will forever hold a special place in her heart.

As well, a huge thank you to Concordia's former Cancer Care department, especially Dr. Harris and Nick for always going above and beyond.

“You are gone far too soon but will forever be loved. Reunited with those we lost before you, I have no doubt you took a turn at the Rainbow Bridge for all the puppy cuddles first! Thank you for fighting as long and hard as you did, now you can rest easy and without pain.” ~ Ashley

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Sally’s family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.

I miss seeing you at work bright and early. Every morning you would be here rain or shine. Every place has a work mom and you were ours. You will be and are greatly missed by the Pembina Mcmunn Staff. Rest now Sally.

God-speed sweet Sally ♥️ I was shocked and saddened to read of Sally’s passing. There are many fun & happy memories I hold from our old friendship.  The long talks about anything & everything and the many pots of tea.  Sally will always be remembered as a sassy sparkplug - we had a lot of laughs! Whenever I hear a Neil Diamond song - I do always think of that young Sally! Dear Ashley, over the past years I only occasionally crossed paths with your mom - you should know that in these occasions she always beamed as she spoke about your boys - she had so much love for you & your family.  My heartfelt condolences to you & yours - hold onto all the memories, your mom will always be with you. ❤ With love, ~ Terry Friesen

She was a wonderful, positive person to be around. Always offering to help or to listen. Always a great conversation. Rest peacefully.

Ashley, I had met your mom when her health was failing. Through her tears, and frustration of not being able to do the things she wanted, I always managed to get a smile and an "OK" from her, and now and again I even got the 'evil eye', when she disapproved. I wished I had met her years ago as she certainly had a way of touching people's life. We at PANSU genuinely cared about your mom as she touched our hearts.  May your mom rest in peace and with time, I hope you and your boys get the opportunity to heal. It's been a long bumpy road and you should be proud of yourselves. Your mom was so lucky to have your support. We will always remember you Sally, have a safe and peaceful journey.

Ashley and boys and Taylor family, Sorry to hear of Sally’s passing. I loved her “if she thought it she said it” attitude!  Thinking of you all during these difficult times. I’m sure Doug has some stories to share as she was the babysitter. Love to you all. Jodi & Doug Brown ❤

Ashley, I worked at the Winnipeg Airport may years ago when your mother worked there as well in the Mutual of Omaha money exchange. Over the 12 years I was there before WPS took over the policing at the airport, I got to know and became friends with your mother as most did in knowing her. She was kind, a good conversationalist and above all a good friend. I did run into her at the Pembina Mcmuun store occasionally and happened to go there yesterday and found she was not there. As we age we tend to check Obits and there I found Your mothers passing. Your mother was a fantastic woman and with a heavy heart and sadness, so sorry for your loss. it is good to see you are doing well as I recall meeting you when you were a little girl those years ago.
