DAVID TEES

February 13, 1943 - July 26, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce that Dave died at the age of 82 after a challenging illness.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Margaret; children Brenda (Phil); grandchildren Cody and Riley; and sister Maureen and family. He was predeceased by his son Greg, who was Dave’s hero.

Dave was born in East St. Paul in 1943. He met Margaret while they were both taking the Grey Cup Train to Vancouver in 1966 and sparks flew. Margaret moved to Vancouver shortly after and they kept in touch by writing letters and through endless hours on the phone. The first time Dave went to visit Margaret, he came with an engagement ring and the rest was history.

He enjoyed many family road trips to the US and camping at Birds Hill when his children were young. There was a very fondly remembered trip to Disneyland as well. One of his favourite things to do with his kids and his grandchildren was to play catch. In fact he recently told us that he took credit for what good athletes his grandkids are for playing catch with them when they were little.

Dave worked for the provincial government for 36 years, and was in the Department of Labour for the last 24 years of that time. He really looked forward to retiring, and he was able to do so in 1998 at the age of 55 to do exactly what he wanted: ā€œnothingā€. Greg’s death in 2002 was heartbreaking for him and changed how he had pictured his retirement.

He was very passionate about sports, especially the Bombers, the Vikings, and the Blue Jays. He once famously kicked newspapers all over the house when the Bombers lost a playoff game in the 1970s. He loved watching all kinds of sports including golf, tennis, hockey, horse racing, soccer, you name it. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid curler in his younger years.

Dave enjoyed playing video games and instilled a love of them in his kids and grandkids. People were always surprised to learn that he still played a variety of video games in his 70s, including many hours spent completing Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

He loved music and he often said he spent his whole life trying to get great sound out of his speakers. He could play several instruments by ear and was good enough to jam with his friend from school Randy Bachman (but not good enough for The Guess Who sadly). His formidable record collection lives on.

Dave was a private person who loved and enjoyed his family and friends. We will honour his wishes not to have a funeral. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.

Our condolences to Margaret and family. Although we have not been in touch for many years you and Dave are special people in our memories. When David and I worked together I really enjoyed his character and great sense of humour and fairness. You have a special place in our thoughts.

I always saw David as my 'cool' Uncle David. He was interesting, talented, and a little mysterious. I appreciated having a cool uncle David.

I respected that he preferred to be a private person and often asked my mother for updates. I appreciated it when she shared that David had spent time with his family and grandchildren.
