JEANNETTE TEICHGRAEB

February 17, 1937 - June 11, 2022

With broken hearts we regret to announce that Jeannette Teichgraeb (Luchak) at Age 85 suddenly passed away on June 11, 2022 with her family by her side.

Jeannette was the loving mother of John, Jan (Kim), and Belinda (Edmund) and is survived by the father of her kids, Benno Teichgrab.

Jeannette grew up in Winnipeg's West End and attended Somerset, Hugh John Macdonald, and Daniel McIntyre schools. As a young girl she spent many summers with relatives in Ontario at Kashabowie Lake. Mom constantly spoke about going to the movies with her father and she always said that this was one of the best times of her life.

She began her working career with Great West Life from 1953 to 1960, where she started as a messenger and eventually became a highly skilled typist with a speed rating of 105 words per minute on a standard manual typewriter. After taking time off to have her first child John in 1960 she resumed her working career as a typist with CKRC radio station until taking a longer break from working after having Jan and Belinda. She then obtained her real estate license and worked for Fargo Realty in the mid 1970’s for a few years. In 1980 she landed her dream job at CFB Winnipeg as a secretary until retirement in 2001.

Mom enjoyed taking her children downtown for shopping and lunch at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant, The Bay Paddlewheel restaurant, malted milks in the Bay basement, Eaton’s cafeteria, Woolworth’s cafeteria, and in the early days the South Seas Restaurant. Mom enjoyed supporting John and Jan with their hockey throughout the late 1960’s and 1970’s. She also enjoyed taking her three children to West Kildonan Park during that same period. Mom enjoyed being with her friends from the flying club at St. Andrews Airport. She particularly loved George Engel and Rose & Dave Gordon and would fly with them around the southern Manitoba area visiting various locations and participating in fly in poker derbies. Mom volunteered at the RAA Experimental Aviation Association as a secretary. Mom enjoyed being around her flowers in her home garden. She was also an avid reader of mystery books obtained from the Winnipeg Public Library. Mom and Belinda looked forward to spending time together at various high teas and enjoying the pastries. She also found time to do all of the books for Jan's business for many years.

Mom loved to travel with John to antique and classic car shows throughout Manitoba, Minneapolis, and Iola, Wisconsin. Mom loved looking at the pictures and home movies of these car shows, air shows, and the travel vacations of her children.  One of her favorite things to do was taking a car ride in the countryside to admire the scenery and wildlife and take Tikka the family dog for long walks. Mom loved to be at the lake and spent six summers at Jan & Kim's cabin on Longbow Lake in the Kenora area of Ontario where she enjoyed reading her book in the sun on the dock. Mom loved animals and always spoke fondly about the cats and dogs in her life. Mom was a kind person and enjoyed volunteering for many years with the food bank at Ness Baptist Church.

Our family is most thankful to Barbara Bodnar for being mom’s lifelong best friend dating back to their elementary school days together.

Her children were with her upon her passing. Jeannette will be fondly remembered.

In lieu of flowers please donate to your local food bank.

Jeannette will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We will cherish her memory.

We love you mom!

Jeannette's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

As a friend of Jan's in junior high and high school I spent a lot of time seeing her raise her children. She was firm and loving....she was one of many parents I admired and respected in our community. Was fortunate to cross paths with her and the Teichgrab family. It's amazing how you don't realize who is shaping who you become at the time, she is one of many who made a positive impression on me years ago.

So sorry about your mom's passing. I have fond memories of hanging out at Belinda's home as a teenager and your mom was always so friendly towards me. Made me feel welcomed as I can be a bit shy; but I always felt at ease with Belinda's mom! Jeannette used to tease me and Belinda over how much time we spent fixing up our hair as teenagers!😃 I love the pic of Jeannette by the car with a ribbon on it!

Jeannette's visits to the St. James Public Library always brightened our days.  Her passion for reading was evident, and her social interactions with staff were warm, thoughtful, and genuine.  Peace be with you. Deb

❤Jeannette was a true, loyal friend which I will cherish forever. We first met when our boys played hockey together way back in the mid 70's. She would phone me regularly and we'd talk until almost midnight. I would tell her I should get going as I had to get up early in the morning, and she'd have a couple more things she'd want to tell me. 😄 She stayed up late and it never affected her stamina. She was such a fun loving person, loved chatting with people, whether she knew them or not. We'd meet for coffee regularly and each and every time, I would come away thinking she was the most knowledgeable, intelligent person I ever knew. There was never a dull moment. I remember one time being at her house when she had a fancy tea party with her friends and she was just beaming. She was very proud of her three kids and rightfully so. The slide show is absolutely wonderful. She was a very hard worker, any one of her bosses know that. We want to extend our deepest heartfelt sympathy to John, Jan (Kim), Belinda (Ed). We have definitely lost a treasure. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Love Carol & Ed Carson and Rob Carson and family.❤

I’m writing this while gazing at a 1959 photo of Jeanette as a bridesmaid in my mother Ruth’s bridal party. Jeanette’s everlasting and endearing kindness to our family was quite evident in her numerous, lengthy, entertaining and regular visits to Ruth’s mother Bernice (my grandmother) at Holy Family Nursing Home over 50 years later. I last spoke with Jeanette on February 17 to extend birthday wishes and she ended with her trademark “Goodbye Kiddo”. Love and prayers, Brad R “Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime, and falling in at night”. - Edna St. Vincent Millay

I volunteered with Jeannette at the food bank. I go to Ness Baptist. She called everyone "kiddo" and "sweetheart" and had a personality you didn't want to mess with. She had a lot of interesting stories. John, Jan and Belinda, praying for you

i worked with Jeannette for many years at 17 Wing and always ran into her at Federal Retiree meetings since we both retired. She always had time to talk. Jeannette was very professional in her job and the staff enjoyed her bubbly personality. Sbe was always fun, and loved sharing stories about her three children . Your video clip was a wonderful addition to her obituary . May she rest in peace
