Doug Thompson
DOUGLAS LAWRENCE THOMPSON
August 12, 1932 – November 25, 2024
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas Lawrence Thompson, at the age of 92, who died in his sleep at home on November 25.
Doug is predeceased by his parents, Harry John Clifford Thompson and Bessie May Thompson (née Beckman); his two brothers, Leonard C. Thompson and Harvey 'Bobby' Thompson; and by his ex-wife, Marguerite Victoria Thompson (née Shaw). He is survived by his son, John Daniel Thompson.
Doug was born in Saskatchewan and raised on a farm near Moosomin on August 12, 1932. He went east to Manitoba as a young man and started his career as a tire man in the trucking industry in Virden. He also met his future wife there, and Paul Albrechtsen. Doug later became the head of the tire department for Paul's Hauling in Winnipeg. Though the tire department is sometimes not the easiest place to work, Doug was diligent with it, had a passion for his work, and made numerous friends with drivers and co-workers.
Doug also loved western books and movies, horses and animals and anything cowboy. For a time, Doug was a volunteer for the local Liberal Party, doing some canvasing for votes and helping at polls. He had a rare blood type, and often donated blood, especially when asked by Canadian Blood Services when it was needed for an operation. He received a certificate when he hit 100 donations, which he was very proud of. Doug liked vintage/antique cars and loved to drive his 1989 Jaguar. In the summer he was also an avid gardener who loved growing flowers and keeping care of his yard and in the winter he loved snowmobiling. He was also a kind and great loving father, and he will be deeply missed.
Cremation has taken place. As per his wishes there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life may be held at a later date.
Doug’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Sad day for sure, I have very fond memories of Doug as a kid, teen and an adult working at Paul's Hauling. I would always make a detour through the tire shop just to say hi to him. Of course that hi would last 15 minutes or more listening to his stories...Loved him...
He will be missed
RiP Dougie...
