JAMES GORDON THOMSON

“JIM” , “JIMMY”

May 27, 1954 – October 3, 2024

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jim Thomson.

Jim lost his short battle with cancer on October 3, 2024 at Riverview Palliative Care Unit at the age 0f 70.

Jim leaves to cherish his memory: spouse Sharon Thomson; his sons, Richard Thomson (Christina) and Daniel Thomson (Marissa); his daughter Tanis Thomson; sister Bonnie Parry (Lloyd); grandchildren, Jesse, Aaron, Lily, Kaylee and Willow; as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Jim was pre-deceased by his father David; sisters, Joainne & Kim; son Taylor; mother Joan; as well as other family members who meant so much to him.

Jim’s love for driving started at an early age. He used to ride his tricycle every where and gave his Mom anxiety because she never knew where he was. Some how he always managed to arrive home safely because his Mom after the first few times would call the Police and they said they would keep an eye out for him.

Jim drove for Transit and then went into the Trucking Industry. He loved driving, but when he was heading home, nothing was more important and he tried to get there as fast as he could. Jim worked for different Trucking Companies such as: Kleysen Transport, EBD, S&S Transport, Gershman Transport and finally PFM. He loved the camaraderie with his co-workers while working in the offices as well as when he was out on the road.

Jim was a Member of the Legion and enjoyed playing snooker, billiards, and darts. Jim had a way about him that made friendship easy for others because of his personality, sense of humour, respect and of course his charm.

Life threw some challenges at Jim but he met them head on and even when he got sick, he could still make you laugh or put a smile on your face. He never wanted anyone to worry about him and even when he was in pain, he would always say everything was alright.

Jim loved his Family and was always trying to spend time with them. With his young Granddaughters living in the States, he watched them growing up over skype. Last summer Richard and his family came up to visit and Jim was beyond excited at finally getting to interact with his Granddaughters in person.  He was a proud Grandfather to five grandchildren and his heart was full because of them.

Keeping with Jim’s wishes, Cremation has taken place.

Please join us at Jim’s Celebration of Life, which will take place at 11:00am on October 28, 2024, at Army Navy and Air Force Unit #283 – 3584 Portage Avenue – Please dress casual as he was all about comfort.

We welcome any stories or pictures you might have to share about Jim. There will be an open mike so everyone can share their stories.

In lieu of flowers Jim’s request was for donations to Siloam Mission & Cancer Care HSC.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Lane, Dr. Cooke, Jen & all the amazing People we met at Cancer Care HSC while Jim was going through his treatments.

Thank you to the Wheels of Hope drivers for helping to get Jim to his appointments when it was needed.

Thank you to Riverview Palliative Care Unit 3E Nurses & Aids for taking such good care of Jim in his final days.

Thank you to Dr. Dubroni & Dr. Nick for taking the time to call & explain things.

WE MISS YOU, JIMMY!

Jim’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I'm just now finding out this tragic news. I first met Jim, when his family lived next door to us on Dudley Avenue in Winnipeg....my brother Al & he were close friends since the 1960's...and he was a regular visitor to our house...he became someone who I looked up to, not just because of his stature but more due to his character...and he's been like a brother to me for several decades....rest easy big brother

We've know Jim since our early twenties. He would sometimes make it to Sunday tennis in the summer. We all enjoyed playing a fun game of tennis doubles. Then there was late evenings when hubby and Jim would arrive at our place for a very late supper and then snooze. Always a good time when we were all together. Condolences to Sharon and the family. Jim will be missed by all of us. RIP Jim ....

Jim used to come to our house with bottles of root beer and do the A&W dance. They thought he was the great root bear for real. Rest well my friend.

Our condolences to your family. Jim will be missed by many. I met Jim many, many years ago while playing darts at Anavets283 and later player in several Command snooker events and finally English Billiards.

He was always a big prescence, with that beaming smile and easy go lucky attitude that was passed on to anyone he met.

You will be missed my friend. Until we meet again.

I am so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. He delivered to my place of work and was so friendly and nice. We were both getting treatment at cancercare and I met up with him there not long after he got his terminal diagnosis. He was so proud of his family and I am sure he will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. My condolences.

Jim and I became friends while.i worked at Gershman Transport. We bonded quickly.and spent many nights at "The Grant" shooting pool and laughing at each other's jokes. Jim got me into playing billiards which was a great thing for me. I loved the game, and I loved Jim for being such a good friend. Rest my friend, you earned it.
