ALICE TOMPKINS
September 15, 1934 - January 23, 2024
Family sadly announces the peaceful passing of Alice Beryl Tompkins at Oakview Extendicare Home in Winnipeg on January 22, 2024.
Alice was born in Brandon, Manitoba, a second child to Ewart and Jean Abey on September 15, 1934 and was raised on the family farm near Chater. She attended Chater Elementary School and then St. Michaels Academy. After a short time in Edmonton where she was married and had her son in 1955, she then pursued a long career, in Winnipeg, as a stenographer/clerk, first in private business then with the provincial government and finally spent many years as a federal government employee with Transport Canada.
Alice was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed bible stories and books on the royal family which led her to her trip to England after she retired. She enjoyed going for drives with her husband Ken, who she married in 1974, to the countryside to see what wildlife was in the fields or the ice breaking up on the river. Long weekends were often spent travelling to Saskatoon to visit her only son and his family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Montie Peter (Debbie) Chodak; grandchildren Cody and Jesica (Tyler) Gee; and great grandchildren, Arlo, Eli and Sadie. Also surviving are sisters Arlene Docking and Judy (Bob) Lahod; brothers George (Bev) Abey and Bryan Abey; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Ken Tompkins in 2009; older sister Shirley Dunn in 2022, as well as her parents.
Graveside service will be arranged at Chater cemetery at a later date.
