SHIRLEY LORRAINE TROSTER
(née RHYNARD)
August 26, 1943 – October 23, 2025
With deep love and sorrow, we announce that Shirley Lorraine Troster, a devoted follower of Christ, passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord on October 23, 2025 at the age of 82 years old.
Shirley was born on August 26, 1943 in Winnipeg to Jean and Sam Rhynard. She lived in Ferndale most of her life enjoying her yard and community friends.
She lived a life marked by faith, kindness, and service to others. Shirley found great joy in worship, prayer, and sharing God’s love with family, friends, and everyone she met. Shirley and her husband Herman enjoyed spending time together and with family and friends. They will both be lovingly remembered for their gentle spirit, generosity, and steadfast trust in God's promises.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Carl Troster; and by her parents, Jean and Sam Rhynard; and infant sister Deborah Rhynard.
Left to cherish her memory are: daughter Darcy (Murray) MacDowell; son Paul Magarrell; daughter Julie (Tim) Punton; step-son Greg Troster; step-son Tony (Donna) Troster; brother-in-law Nicky Troster; two grandchildren, Annaliese Amaris and Flyn Magarrell, and step-granddaughter Alyssa Troster. Shirley is survived by her sisters: Elaine (Dave) Fisher, Judy (Vick) Dusik, and Sandra (Roydon) Rodgers; also many nieces and nephews.
Shirley and Herman were faithful members of Grace Community Church, where they participated in activities and worship events with their Christian family. One of their favourite verses was, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:16, which reflected their enduring faith and peace in the Lord.
Thank you to the Palliative and Home Care Team for their support, and making it possible for care "at home". We also want to extend our utmost love and gratitude to the Rodgers' Family for their gift of caring for Shirley in their home throughout her palliative journey.
HERMAN CARL TROSTER, beloved husband, father, and stepfather, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2021 at the age of 84. Born in Husum Germany on February 5, 1936, he later made Canada his home, where he built a life filled with love, family, and craftsmanship.
A skilled woodworker and cabinet maker, he took great pride in building custom cabinets and furniture from his own shop on the property, creating pieces made to last for generations. Even into his retirement, he continued to enjoy working with his hands and perfecting his craft.
He loved spending time with family and friends, especially enjoying his wife’s home cooking and baking. He was an avid fan of FIFA soccer and cherished their many trips to the west coast of Canada. Above all, he deeply loved his wife Shirley and family, who were the center of his life. Herman had great faith and was a firm believer in the Lord.
He is lovingly remembered by his two sons, Greg and Tony (Donna); daughter Julie (Tim); granddaughter Alyssa; his step-son Paul; and step-daughter Darcy (Murray); step grandchildren, Annaliese and Flyn; brother Nicky; and his extended family. He will be remembered for his kindness, his skill, and the lasting legacy of love and craftsmanship he leaves behind.
A celebration of Shirley and Herman's lives and faith will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Grace Community Church, 280 Caron Road, Headingley, Manitoba R4H 1B4. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for lives well lived in Christ.
For those unable to attend in person, the service will be able to be viewed a short time after via YouTube.
The interment of ashes will be at a later date for the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Community Church, reflecting Shirley and Herman’s hearts for serving others.

Shirley and I were best friends through our Sanford high school years. There were many fond memories.
Thankfully we reconnected recently.
I hold Shirl's last message dear to my heart: "LIVE LIFE".

Cousin Shirley. You came into my life for only a brief moment in time that summer of 1980. You were there in the right place, at the right time and said just the right thing. I shall remember you for always. 🥰
