EDWARD WALTER TURCHYN

Peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family, Edward Turchyn passed away on October 22, 2023 at the age of 51.

Ed will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Joanne Paquin; her children, Madison, Sheridan, and Ainslea; his mother Elizabeth; sisters, Sherrie, Connie, and Debbie; nephews, Michael, Joseph, and Drake; as well as niece Tiffani. Also mourning Ed’s loss is the entire Paquin family; his many close friends; and pup Kenzie. Ed is now reunited with his father Walter; and we take comfort thinking they are catching up with each other, perhaps over a cold beverage.

Ed attended St. Paul’s High School, and spent his entire career at Safeway where he will be missed by his many colleagues. Ed loved sports, he was a huge fan of the Houston Texans and he also played football, hockey and enjoyed curling and golfing. Over the years he was lucky to develop so many great friendships with his teammates that lasted his lifetime.

Ed and Joanne had known each other through work, and in 2013 it was clear that they were going to be more than just casual friends and their love story began. As best friends they embarked on a life full of fun and laughter, they travelled extensively and loved their cruises (and cruise wear!), going to new places and meeting new people. Their life together was a beautiful adventure and they were looking forward to their future together, of living at a lake, travelling the world and growing old together. This journey took a cruel turn when Ed was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in November 2022 while on vacation in Maui. Ed faced this battle with both courage and grace putting up a valiant fight till the end.

We would like to thank the medical teams who cared for Ed, the oncology and palliative teams, his homecare professionals, and to all of our friends who supported and stood by us this past year.

A private Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held in the near future, and a larger gathering for his many friends is also being planned.  In lieu of flowers donations in Ed’s memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

My Honey, your life was a blessing,

your memory a treasure,

you are loved beyond words,

and missed beyond measure,

xoxo love your JoJo.

I am so sorry to hear of Eddie’s passing and the illness that he had to go through. Eddie was one of the kindest, nicest and most respectful young man that I had the pleasure of teaching. I remember going to watch him play hockey and he was such a good goalie. Later on I met him whenever I was at Safeway and usually had a little chat, or he helped me find something. Please accept my deepest condolences and prayers. I know that he loved his family very deeply. May he rest in the arms of Angels. Eternal Memory .

Ed is one of the best manager that I worked with. We lose one the best co worker who give you an advise, a colleague who’s always makes us laugh and a friend who’s always there when needed him.  Joanne I’m so sorry. I remembered 2013 at Jefferson and I’m glad that I’ve known you two. Ed loves you unconditionally and you’re love story was incomparable. My prayers and condolences to you and your loved ones 🙏

There there are no words to express our sorrow over losing this wonderful, thoughtful, caring man that we had the honour of calling our son-in-law. May you Rest In Peace Ed and watch over Jo as you always did. We love you❤️❤️

Ed was always a kind, gentle man, a fair manager, and a stellar co-worker. I’m still shocked that he is gone. A true example of the saying “only the good die young”. I’m very sorry for the family’s loss, especially Joanne. You were both lucky to have found each other and had a fairly tale life together. My deepest condolences, May he Rest in Peace.
