TIM TURNER

Tim passed away suddenly on July 31 at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Susan Turner (Brunel); two daughters, Stefanie Turner (Zach Degner), Sandra Lemoine (JC Lemoine); and his cherished grandchildren, Madeleine and Henry Degner, Léo, Lucy, Annie, Alice Lemoine; and mother-in-law Isabelle Brunel. He is survived by his twin brother Tom (Patti) with whom he had a close relationship. Tim is also survived by his siblings, Susan, Naureen, Faye and Chris. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Maybelle Turner; and father-in-law Norm Brunel.

Tim moved to Winnipeg at age 13 and attended J.H. Bruns for junior high then St. Paul’s for high school. After high school he attended the University of Manitoba where he graduated with a degree in economics and criminology. He then went on to join the Winnipeg Police Service in 1982 until 2020. During his career he patrolled districts 1, 4, and 6. He then achieved his dream of becoming a canine officer working with his favorite partner PSD Enzo. As a K9 officer he covered the whole city and got to know officers from all districts.

Tim loved hockey (a Maple Leaf fan) and played as a goalie for many years, including with the police league. He was also an avid golfer and had memberships at several different courses over the years. After retirement he volunteered at Niakwa golf course for a few years.

As an avid sports lover, he cheered on his daughters and then grandchildren in their various athletic endeavours, including ringette, hockey, soccer, baseball, fencing, equestrian and water polo. He was so proud of all of them and cherished them more than anything.

Respecting Tim’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. For those who wish, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society, K9 Advocacy Rescue Group, or any dog rescue of your choice would be Tim’s preference. 

I would like to thank Dr. Casey Woo for his many years as Tim’s doctor, as well as Mary at Dr. Woo’s office. Also thank you to first responders from the Sage Creek station for their efforts and caring in a crisis. You are true heroes!

Rest in peace Tim.
