JOHN VALKS

On February 12, at the age of 53, John passed away at his home in Winnipeg. John leaves to mourn his mother Geraldine; Brother Mike; Sister Kecia; Step-mother Judy; and stepsisters, Shaunene and Sherri in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews. John was predeceased by his father in 2005.

John grew up in Winnipeg and later in Selkirk graduating from Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School. He worked at Smitty’s in Selkirk and then moved into the security field before relocating to Kelowna, BC. He spent from 1996 till 2008 in Kelowna working with Perkins Family restaurant, a job which he enjoyed. In early 2009 he decided it was time to head back to Manitoba where he got back into the security field working with companies such as Cors, Paladin, Gardaworld and G4S.  

John was a unique guy with not a care in the world, he lived his life the way he wanted and made no excuses for his way of doing things. 

A master of both the digital and physical realms, John was a man who appreciated the artistry of a well-told story. Whether he was navigating the complex landscapes of Ever Quest or World of Warcraft or mastering a new difficult level, he approached life with a sense of play and a sharp wit.

While he never married, John was never alone. He built a vibrant life filled with deep friendships that spanned continents. To his family, he was the tech-guru, to his online community, he was a reliable teammate and a legendary strategist.
