Derrick Vallance

DERRICK W. VALLANCE
August 25, 1958 – January 5, 2026
Our family is deeply saddened to share that Derrick Vallance unexpectedly passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 67.
Perhaps you knew Derrick from his youth, as a long-standing friend, through football, from years at the gym, on the golf course, at work, as your neighbour, or simply from his long walks around the neighbourhood with his beloved dog.
Memorial donations in Derrick's honor may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Children’s Hospital Foundation, his long-supported charities.
A private family service will be held.

I as well wish Derrick's family and friends my sincerest condolences. As Tricia mentioned we came to know Derrick though our dog walks in Windsor Park. During the summer months Derrick, Cookie, and recently Lainey would walk up our street in the evenings when I was out working in the yard. Derrick and I would discuss golf, the Bombers, and the Jets. Most often armchair coaching the Bombers. Routinely we'd talk for more than a half hour. I will certainly miss seeing Derrick rounding the corner on our street, and all of the great conversations we had. He was truly a kind person. Rest in peace Derrick.

Our sincere condolences to Derrick's family and friends. Terry and I were so very saddened to hear of Derrick's passing. We met Derrick on our walks in Windsor Park with our puppies. It put a smile on our face whenever we saw Derrick and Cookie and most recently Lainey turn the corner as we so enjoyed visiting and talking with Derrick. Derrick was a kind, gentle soul always so interested in how we were doing and what was new with us. I will greatly miss our chats. Rest in peace Derrick, I definitely know Cookie was waiting for you and you are now together again.

Although Derrick and I are cousins, our families were never close. I can"t even remember the last time I talked to him. We did see each other at some point when we were very young, I do remember, I'm greatful to his friends here who left thier memories so we can see that things went well and he had some good times along the way. Sorry for your loss Dan.

Goodbye my friend. I will always remember the many good times together over the years. Golfing those beautiful early mornings at your course, watching the Masters together, driving up to Belair in the winter to check out the cottage on the lake and simply enjoying a quiet time together. The best of times.

Derrick was a good friend of mine and he will be greatly missed. Derrick was always very friendly, kind and courteous towards my family and others. He was a big guy with a big heart. Derrick was a true friend and he would always be ready with a helping hand or some positive words when you needed them. We grew up on the same street and shared many interests. Weight lifting and sports were a common bond and as we got a bit older, golf. We spent many hours talking golf, playing golf and hitting thousands of golf balls. We were just talking on Christmas Eve and Derrick was reminiscing about how I somehow talked him into trying golf and how he never thought he’d be able to play the game but ended up becoming an avid golfer, he even had a hole in one while golfing with his brother Dan. I remember when Derrick hadn’t been golfing that long and I took him out to Southwood, he seemed apprehensive walking up to the first tee, he wasn’t sure he’d be up to playing a round out there. To complicate matters someone in the pro shop had matched us up with a young guy that we would have to play the round with. We were hoping it would just be the two of us out there. When we got to the first tee we introduced ourselves and noticed that the young man was missing a hand and had a special handle on his arm to hold his driver and after a few waggles he busted his drive right down the middle of the fairway. I looked at Derrick and said well there you go buddy if he can do it so can you and the rest as they say was history! It was as if our golf partner was heaven sent. He was a real inspiration. I would especially like to take this opportunity to pass along my family’s condolences to the Vallance family at this difficult time.
Sincerely Darren, Debbie, Michael and Charlie Stirling.

Dan Vallance and Family,
Sorry to hear about the sudden passing of Derrick. I would bump into Derrick a couple of times a year, usually at the Golf Dome.
We would catch up on each other’s lives and laugh about the things we did as kids.
Derrick was a kindhearted person that the world will miss.
