BARBARA-JEAN VAN LANDEGHEM
August 26, 1956 – July 12, 2025
It is with heartfelt sadness that we share the passing of Barbara-Jean Van Landeghem, who left us on July 12, 2025.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fredrick and Corrine Lake; husband Alan Van Landeghem; in-laws, Albert and Bernadine Van Landeghem; and brothers, John and Alex Lake.
Barb will always be remembered by her siblings: Fred (Karen) Lake, Brenda (Irving) Latta; and brother’s/sister’s-in law: Donald (Laurie) Van Landeghem, Wayne (Dinah) Van Landeghem, Brenda (Rick) Bobychuk, and Vicki Lake. As well as her children: Christopher (Courtney) Van Landeghem, Derek (Sarah) Van Landeghem, Erica (Patrick) Ament; and her grandchildren whom she loved deeply - Addison, Blake, Quinn, Brody, Zachary, & Matthew.
Barbara-Jean dedicated her life to family, community, and the treasured moments spent with her loved ones. She worked alongside family at Jeanne's Bakery, and later as an Educational Assistant in an elementary school where she cared for the children as if they were her own. She spent her summers out at Grand Marais where she was actively involved in the community and made many family friends. Upon retirement she became a full-time Grandma caring for her 3 young grandchildren who she loved tremendously.
Barbara-Jean's memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Her warmth, creativity, and love will always be remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cancer Care Manitoba.
Barbara-Jean’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I knew Barb as a devoted mother and a committed parent council member at Robertson School. It was a pleasure to be her children's Grade 1 teacher and to get to know her for the helpful, caring and humorous individual she was when visiting and volunteering in our classroom. My condolences to Christopher, Derek, Erica and families.

We are so very sorry to learn of Barb's passing. To all of you who loved her and who knew her, we are wishing you comfort in recalling wonderful times and memories of her.
We met Barb many years ago at Bird Lake as part of our clan of wonderful neighbors/friends out there.
I also had opportunity to experience how much Barb enjoyed her school kids amd job when I was invited to share my experiences as a police officer and to meet her class of little ones. I can truly say, seeing her and those children, that she loved those kids and they equally loved her back.
May you Rest now. You are loved and missed by many.

Barb was a wonderful friend who I have shared so much with over the years. I worked with her at Robertson school where we became good friends. For many years now, we've gotten together with a group of ladies from Robertson school. We always had a great time. Barb was a loyal friend who was thoughtful, giving and was always there for you in the fun times or when you needed some good advice. I'm so grateful we were friends. I'm going to miss her very much. To her family, I wish you peace and comfort during this difficult time. My deepest sympathy.

I am so very happy to have known Barb. I worked with her for many years at Robertson School, where she was wonderful and caring with the children, parents and staff. I also got together with her and a group of Robertson ladies many times over the years. Barb was special in so many ways!
She had a quiet, kind of quirky sense of humour, an amazing ability to find the perfect gifts, was a great listener(and problem solver) and just a genuine and kind person. I am so honoured to have been her friend, and will miss her very much! My condolences to all.

To the Lake and Van Landeghem family I am so sorry for your loss. I've known Barb since elementary school. In the last 15 to 20 years I've joined her and what I call my elementary school group for dinners and events. Barb and I found we had our grandkids in common as they were very close in age. She loved her grandkids and kids like crazy, they were the center of her universe. I've known her for 60 years and my heart has a hole in it without her. May she rest in peace. To our Precious Barb's family:
I want to thank God, for giving me a wonderful friend, Barb. She was loving, gracious and extremely kind to everyone she met. I worked with her at Robertson School. We became close friends with sandy, Marilyn, Pam,Leslie, Brittany & Jocelyn and met monthly for dinner. She made us laugh, helped us with problems and was always there for us. She was wonderful and yes, I thank God for her. We were blessed to call her our friend.

Christopher, Derek, and Erica, our memories of your parents go way back to the times we spent visiting with you guys at the cabin, summer and winter. Our kids, Jen and Alex, still talk about the time your parents babysat for us when we had to attend a social in the city. Your parents only condition was that our kids spend the night. When we picked them up in the morning they were exstatic as they were able to eat Jeanne's cake before they went to bed and then again for breakfast. Jen met your mom last year at Jeanne's when she was behind her in line while picking up a cake for my 70th. I then contacted her on Facebook and got caught up a bit.
our condolences on your loss.

Barbara-Jean has been my friend for 63 years! We shared so many firsts throughout the years. School, Brownies, CGIT, Socials, we got married six months apart, we had our first babies two months apart and our second babies two months apart. When our kids were young we spent time together at Grand Marais every summer. I am so grateful for the many memories we made together. I will treasure the memories and I will always remember Barb with love.
My deepest condolences to Barb's children and grandchildren., her sister Brenda and brother Fred.

To my dear lifelong friend, I have no words, you were taken too soon. I treasure our childhood memories of growing up on Monreith St., attending Robertson School together, where we were both patrols. Then attending Andrew Mynarski where we were in the same home rooms, finally, and an all girls classes where we had so much fun. Then finally Sisler High School, where we got our first jobs at McDonalds, met the boys who we would marry, and be in each other's wedding parties. I was so fortunate to to attend our 50th High School Reunion together this June with other close friends, that was so special. Although life took us in different directions and we both got busy, anytime we would get together it was like we were never apart. I also treasure those summers spent with you at your family cottage at Bird Lake, your family was so generous to let me tag along. Too many memories to mention ...I will miss you Barb! My deepest sympathies to Barb's children , grandchildren, and to her sister Brenda, and husband Irving, and bother Fred and his wife. R.I.P. my friend.
