Siobhan Van De Keere

SIOBHAN EILEEN VAN DE KEERE
(née BYRNE)
October 14, 1966 – December 6, 2024
Peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, Siobhan passed away.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband of 34 years Michael; and their children, Stephen (Jess) and Caleigh. She is also survived by her sisters, Doreen (Joe) and Frances (Robert); brothers, Sean (Jadwiga), Brian (Fran), Brendan (Charlene); and sister-in-law Edith. She will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Siobhan is predeceased by her Granny Eileen; Mother Agnes; Father John; and brothers, Christopher and Liam.
Siobhan was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the Riverview area attending Our Lady of Victory School and Churchill High School. Being the youngest of eight, Siobhan was always the baby of the Byrne family. At a young age Siobhan loved Irish dancing, sports and was musically inclined, being first chair clarinet in the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra in high school.
Once finished high school, she found herself working where she could interact and help people, Whether at the Right Stop Clothes Boutique, the Winnipeg Fury Soccer team, the Winnipeg Children’s Festival, the Winnipeg Symphony Box Office, and finally for the last number of years at the University of Manitoba Asper School of Business in administration. She made many lasting friendships along the way.
Siobhan was a fantastic mom and so proud of her children. She was always involved with their various sports and activities, whether volunteering, coaching soccer for several years, or being the manger for ringette or hockey teams. Siobhan loved competing whether playing team handball, flag football, soccer, softball or ultimate frisbee until the age of fifty. One of Siobhan’s passions was golfing. She had a beautiful swing and often said she’d would love to golf every day, even started to achieve it. Siobhan had very fond memories of many trips to Ireland and seeing her family there, always lots of fun (good crack). She built lots of memories going camping and being around the campfire, in the Rockies and all points in between especially out at Otter Falls.
With Siobhan’s long battle with Leukaemia, there are many people to thank. She received the best of care from Dr. David Szwajcer and the rest of the team at Cancer Care Manitoba including at the Victoria Hospital and the Palliative care team allowing her to be at home.
Her Celebration of Life was held from 1:00pm – 4:00pm on Friday, December 20, 2024 at the Masonic Memorial Centre located at 420 Corydon Ave. in Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the cancer society of your choice.
Siobhan’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I worked with Siobhan for many years at the Asper School of Business. I trained her in her position when she first arrived and was impressed with her immediately because when I asked her to tell me a bit about herself, she immediately started talking about Mike, Stephen and Caleigh. She didn't brag about past work accomplishments but she told me all about her family. It was so obvious that they were by far, the most important thing in her life.
Siobhan and I had to many good times at Asper. She made going to work so much easier. And no one could make me laugh like Siobhan did. It was heart-breaking to hear about the Leukaemia dignosis. Siobhan was so brave and fought so hard.
I was so lucky to have known Siobhan. She made people around her better. I'll miss her always.

“Jesus, Mary & Holy St. Joseph!!”
Being a friend with Sibby for 40 + years was my true honor and I will miss her daily.
A few months ago, Sib said to me “we’ve been through so much” and it made me start to remember our numerous adventures starting back in 1980. There were no lack of tears and laughs during my walk down memory lane.
We met most likely when we started playing on sports teams in grade 7 as Churchill Bulldogs. Small high school means you play on all the sports teams!
Your fiery Irish spirit on the court was always acknowledged and much appreciated by your teammates.
Working at the Winnipeg Fury soccer Club for two summers. Oye, I loved spending many hours together.
Getting pregnant with due dates a few weeks apart with our first borns was a blast and probably when our bond became stronger.
Friday morning play group that turned into mom excursions to Echo Bay that always included a craft, lots of beverages, maybe some hair die, more beverages and usually ended with some bras and panties up the flag pole or hanging on the antlers.
Morning Coffees were even better when she introduced Bailies Irish Cream into the mix.
Friday afternoon “play dates” in one of our backyards.
Camping to Grand Beach and beyond.
Halloween trick or treating with our kids accompanied with, of cour roadies to keep us warm inside.
Our excursions to Eatons with all the kids in tow just to hang out somewhere warm in the winter months.
Our small home renos done while your hubby was away on business.
Our many trips to Echo Bay. Showing the guys how to fish.
Rouger girls dinner parties, book club “meetings”, Otter Falls weekends, our epic trip to New Smyrna Beach to celebrate our 50th and many fun times with so many uncontrollable laugh sessions.
BOB (beauties on bikes) excursions peddling to local restaurants and breweries enjoying bevies at each stop.
So many golf games!! Birdie juice usually turned into par juice, bogey juice or whenever we felt like it juice.
During our 43 year long friendship your unwavering dedication and commitment to our bond and your family was exceptional.
Thank you Sib.
I will miss you daily, I love you dearly and will never forget our memories. Until we meet again doll….

Siobhan, is so missed by all of her family in Ireland. She brought much laughter and mischief into our lives whenever she visited her ancestral home in Dublin and when she hosted her Irish family in Winnipeg. She was much loved and will be so missed. This flying Irish cousin is heartbroken 💔. Sympathies to Mike, Stephen, Caleigh, Jess and all of the Byrne and Van de Kere families from Aileen and Danny, the Morrissey and Wright families
