DARLENE MARY ANN VANDERLIP
(née Holian)
October 14, 1949 – January 25, 2025
With a heavy heart we announce the passing of Darlene Mary Ann Vanderlip (née Holian) on January 25, 2025 peacefully surrounded by her children at St. Boniface Hospital.
Darlene will be missed by her children, Lori, Michelle, and Kris; grandchildren, Bailey (Alex), Nathen, and Luke. Darlene is survived by her sister Linda; brother-in-law Ed; and their children, Kiley and Danielle (Matt); as well as her brother John; brothers-in-law, Greg and David; and sister-in-law Mary.
Darlene was predeceased by husband George; and parents, Mary and Walter.
Darlene was born in Winnipeg on October 14, 1949 to Walter and Mary Holian (née Reimer). She was the eldest of three siblings Bruce, Linda, and John. She enjoyed family get togethers where Walter would play accordion or harmonica with Mary and family singing, and reminisced often of times spent with them.
Darlene married George on May 31, 1970 and in her younger years her interests included bowling, softball, and dancing. Darlene worked as a receptionist at Dominion news before she had children. Together George and Darlene raised three children Lori, Michelle, and Kris. She enjoyed their younger years as a stay-at-home mom. Mom was at every baseball, ringette, and hockey game cheering us on, she enjoyed many trips and tournaments. She spent summers with George and the kids in Grand Beach. She started a career at Boeing in 1985 and retired in 2008.
Darlene loved spending time with her grandchildren Bailey, Nathen, and Luke. Her time with them was spent with trips to the park, zoo, flea markets, reading, playing games, watching movies, and she would attend their sporting and singing events to cheer them on.
Darlene was an avid reader and enjoyed mysteries. She was always up for a trip to the casino with George and Kris.
Darlene enjoyed getting together for coffee and trips to car shows.
Darlene was an animal lover and cherished her cats Furby, Shadow and Sam.
You will be missed dearly, Mom.
As per mom’s wishes there will be no public service. A private memorial will be held in the spring when Darlene will be laid to rest with her husband George.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to staff at Maples Care Home for their excellent care and support. A special thank you to staff at St. Boniface hospital emergency department and E6 for their compassionate care.
Darlene’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
