MARGARET ANNE VAN ELSLANDER

(née BANKS)

May 3, 1942 - August 28, 2022

With great sadness, we announce that Peggy passed away on August 28, 2022.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 59 years (Norm); children Leonette (Martin) and Todd (Darlene); brothers Bryan and David; sister-in-law Bev; and many nieces and nephews.

Peggy worked tirelessly alongside Norm for close to 60 years in many ventures from Chicken Delight Franchise, Founding Gondola Pizza, opening Mr Mustard Restaurant, operating Medicine Rock Cafe and operating many commercial properties.

Peggy had a great love for family, friends, travel and food. She took extreme pleasure in sharing her love of food with others and always had great attention to detail. She loved her cabin at Twin Lakes Beach where she tended her garden, enjoyed the view of the lake with tea  & a book, and entertained friends and family with drinks. There was a special place in her heart for annual trips to Hawaii and Palm Springs where countless memories were made. The many, many, many photos from the cabin and Hawaii are a testament for her love of sunsets!

Peggy's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In Accordance with their wishes, cremation has taken place and a private formal service will be held.

The family wishes to acknowledge and Thank Friendly Care Givers Senior’s Care (especially Jemanesh & Kate) and the medical staff at the Grace Hospital (Emergency and 2 South) for all the wonderful care and kindness given to Peggy.

A Hui Hou Kakou Mom!

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Norm, Leonette, Todd and other family members. I met Norm and Peggy over 20 years ago when I started representing them as their agent regarding their commercial real estate holdings and I had the pleasure of working with Peggy many times over the years. She was such a wonderful person to meet with and our conversations always included our personal lives such as talking about our families, travel and food. My wife Eileen also had the pleasure of meeting Peggy a few times and always commented to me on how nice their conversations were and what a beautiful person Peggy was.

My condolences on the passing of your Mom. I have so many great memories of your Mom while growing up with all of you at Twin Lakes. Your Mom & Dad were good friends of my parents and I often think of the good times they had together.  So many funny stories. She will certainly be missed.

Peggy and I grew up as kids together in St. James. We reconnected many years later when both Leonette and LorriLyn ended up in my Grade 6 classroom when I taught at Hastings. The connection was on again especially with my avid purchasing of all the paintings that were for sale at The Medicine Rock Cafe. I would pick them out when there with my husband for dinner and she would deliver them incognito to where I was teaching!!!!! She was an amazing woman so  much fun ,thoughtful and caring. My thoughts go out to you, Norm, with this profound loss. You are left however with many wonderful memories of all the travels adventures and love you shared together. Barb McDole

Norm and Family, My condolences on Peggy's, your Mom and Grandmother's passing. I have fond memories growing up with your mom and having pizza for the first time(of many) at your home on Dunkirk.  Norm, you and Peggy were always very kind to me as a kid and your kindness will always be remembered. My beautiful Auntie. Thank you for supporting me at Before The Beach. Allowing me to always keep your toes looking pretty.  Teaching me the difference between a good & not so good bottle of white.  I will always have beautiful memories of growing up with my cousins at Twin Lakes Beach & eating lots of Gondola pizza.  I will miss you, see you on the other side 🙏 Cindy Anne
