MARIO JORGE DA COSTA VARAO

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of our brother, Mario Varao. He is survived by his sisters, Lina (John) and Manuela (Randy). He was predeceased by his father, Jose Varao (2017) and his mother, Laudalina Varao (2018).

Mario was born September 6, 1964 in the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores. He was 3 years old when our family immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Mario was very bright, witty, and entertaining. Music was one of his passions. He enjoyed playing the accordion and sang in choirs and various vocal groups. Another interest of his was drawing and sketching. He enrolled in a course to develop his skill in this area. He had a fascination with airplanes and would often go to the airport just to watch them land and take off.

After graduating from high school, Mario spent a few years doing mechanical work. Unfortunately, while still in his 20's, Mario was diagnosed with an illness that significantly altered his life. This illness presented daily challenges which he dealt with for 30 years. That struggle is now over. Though Mario will be missed by his family and friends, our desire is that he rest in peace.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
