Michael Walton

MICHAEL RICHARD WALTON
March 28, 1948 – January 27, 2026
Michael Richard Walton died peacefully on January 27, 2026, at Grace Hospital following a brief illness.
Michael was born on March 28, 1948, in Sidmouth, England, to Richard and Barbara Walton. He moved with his family to Winnipeg in 1956, where he attended St. John’s-Ravenscourt and the University of Manitoba. He also spent a year studying in Lausanne, Switzerland, becoming fluent in French.
Michael’s working years were spent primarily in the auto industry, grain brokerage, and finally at Enterprise, where many valued friendships were formed along the way. In 1978, he married Robin Bottomley, and together they raised two sons, Andrew and Chris. Family was deeply important to Michael, and he was immensely proud of his sons and grandchildren.
Michael possessed a sharp wit and dry sense of humour and was well known for his impressions and comical faces. He loved music, played the guitar by ear, and was the biggest supporter of his sons’ musical endeavours. A true food enthusiast, he delighted in encouraging others to “just try a bite”. He will be remembered for his kindness and gentle soul.
Michael is survived by his son Andrew Walton (Emily), and grandchildren Owen and Allison; his son Chris Walton (Sam); his sister Fiona Gunderson; his brother-in-law Jim Grape; nephew Paul (Avery); nieces Ainsley (Jon), Sarah, Jennifer (Rex), and Claire; as well as his great-nephews, Braxton and Riley; and great-nieces, Charlee and Grace. He will also be lovingly remembered by family overseas and many friends.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Richard and Barbara Walton; his sister Anne Grape; and his nephew David Grape.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard, Winnipeg, with a time for fellowship following the service.

It was with great sadness that I received the news via Fiona's email.
The timing for me was particularly poignant as I had just been viewing some old cine films of Lodge Orchard that had all the cousins playing, in the wonderful gardens, with the trollies and Chips, the dog. As Dee has said we had special times in Sidmouth and it is so sad that that geography prevented me from seeing more of him. In 1966 he came over with the family for a year and I remember the good times we had together. It seems such a long time ago.
Lorna and I mourn the passing of a kind and gentle soul. and our thoughts are with you all at this sad and difficult time,

So sad to hear of Michaels death he will be very much missed. I have very precious memories of the holidays we all spent at Grannies at Lodge Orchard in Sidmouth where we played with the trollies that the gardener Mr. Pinny built for us. Although we were near the sea we were not allowed to go there because of the germs!! It was a magical time of our child hood with all of us cousins being together, even though it must have driven Granny mad especially when we rotated the summer house. Little did I know then that we, in the future, would not see each other for a long long time and that is something I have often pondered on and regret. My love and support goes out to all the family and we here in the Uk will be thinking of you during the days ahead and join you with love and hugs. Dee xxx

Mike will always be remembered through stories about him amd seeing him in his son's and grandchildren.
Michayle has wonderful memories of her Uncle Mike and his fun nature trying to get her to try a new food or talking with her to Darby the family dog.
He was a wonderful brother in law and Brent and I always enjoyed seeing him and learning g about a new band or a album rediscovered and of course sharing delicious meals
He will always be remembered
. XOXO

Very saddened to hear of my cousin's passing. It was wonderful to spend time with him in Winnipeg when I visited from Scotland a few years ago. We drove to Bismarck to see his sister, Fiona & spent a few days altogether. We shared many happy memories & Ihad fun & laughter. I'm so grateful that we had that time together. My love & sympathy goes to all the family. I wish I could be with you. Michael will be sorely missed- his sense of fun, his love of music, sharing recipes, his kindness, generosity & much more. Biggest hugs to you all, Mary XXX
