MARILYNN “LYNN” WARKENTIN

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilynn (Lynn) Warkentin at the age of 63 on April 2, 2025. Lynn died peacefully, surrounded by her three beloved children at the Selkirk Regional Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by her loving husband Robert (Robb) Warkentin and children Emma (Stefan), Bobbi-Jo (Sheldon), Sam (Stephanie). As well as siblings, Mark (Cheryl) Cardinal of Vancouver, BC, Mae (Ron) McDonald of Lac La Biche, AB and Marian (Roger) Ebanks of Stouffville, ON. In addition, she was loved by her many nieces and nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Bernice Cardinal and Peter Cardinal.

Lynn was born and raised in Lac La Biche, AB and trained as an RCMP Constable in Regina. She later shifted careers and came to work for Manitoba Hydro where she met her husband, Robb. Lynn had a 35 year career at Hydro from which she retired in 2018. Never one to be idle, Lynn continued to use her extensive skill set working part-time in a variety of ways. She helped out at her sister's at North Country Outfitting, retail sales and her last role as Office Administrator at ReMax Town and Country.

Among her many accomplishments--serving and protecting as an RCMP Constable, obtaining her MBA, compiling an extensive genealogy of her Metis heritage--she was most proud of her role as Mamma-Bear to her three beloved children. Lynn was known for being the most supportive and loudest parent in the stands, "YOU ROCK!!!!"

“I'll love you forever,

I'll like you for always,

As long as I'm living,

my baby you'll be.”

― Robert N. Munsch

A Celebration of Lynn's life will take place at 2:00pm on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 603 Wellington Crescent (at Academy Road) in Winnipeg. In honour of Lynn's bright and colourful personality, we encourage you to wear colour(s) as radiant as she was.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Lynn’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I remember Lynn as a happy, effervescent woman. Her amazing and contagious big smile.

I also remember trying to help Lynn with an indoor air quality issue. I couldn't find anything to support her claim. Not that her issue wasn't valid, I just couldn't science a solution. That was a sad day for me when tears ran down her cheeks after delivering the news.

Now I have to gently wipe tears away from my eyes.

Gone too soon.

My condolences, Robb and family.

From 1983 when we first met in Larivière for a coffee while you were patrolling the Manitou area and I was in Crystal City to my last years in Manitoba at the stonewall detachment, every time I saw you, you always had that kind smile, the joie de vivre.

You will surely be missed by your loved ones but also by all the people you touched. So long my dear Lynn, and thank you for having been a small part of my life. I really enjoyed knowing you.

My heart is truly saddened. Why did we keep putting off getting together when you would come to LLB for a visit .... I will be forever regretting that. You will always be remembered as one of the kindest people I have known ... Heartfelt condolences to your family. ... their lives were blessed with you being a part of them.

In July of 2023 she and I talked at length during the Warkentin reunion, she was kind, open and gracious. Words escape me. The world has lost a beautiful soul and heaven gained a spitfire!!

I was so looking forward to meeting Lynne. She was going to come to Golden with her family in summer of 2024 but our area was was under a terrible wildfire. She said she would come this summer and I was excitedly anticipating her visit. I am so grateful that on an accidental pocket dial, we had the opportunity to talk. It was such a wonderful accidental event that I will treasure. I will also treasure the Facebook photos and chats and messages.

I am so sorry Lynn that we didn't get the chance to meet up so I could give you such a huge hug. Rest Easy my Sweet niece! I send my love to my great nieces and nephew at this sad time. Auntie Davene

Lynn and I worked together in the Corporate Integrity Office at Manitoba Hydro and remained close friends after we both retired. Lynn was an amazing person, loved life, her family and friends, had an infectious laugh and beautiful smile. I will miss our frequent visits over lunch and summer walks at Kildonan Park will not be the same without her. My deepest condolences to Emma, Bobbi-Jo and Sam, her 3 beautiful children who were the center of her world, and to Robb and extended family.

Colin and I met Lynn in Gillam. We lived across the road from each other there in the early 80s. Many fun times and great memories were had! We then made the move to the city and stayed in touch. She loved holding my kids as babies and I knew she would be an amazing mom, and Lynn did not disappoint. Met up in Wpg for lunch a few years ago, (it was a friendship you picked up and it felt like it was yesterday.) She spoke proudly of her 3 babies, makes Robert Munich's words very appropriate!

Lynn's smile, her laugh, her personality ..lit up the room

she will be missed.

Our deepest condolences
