Randy Wasylkoski

RANDOLPH “RANDY” LLOYD WASYLKOSKI
June 9, 1959 – December 30, 2025
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Randy Wasylkoski on the morning of December 30th, 2025, at the age of 66. Randy passed away suddenly in La Salle, Manitoba.
He was born on June 9th, 1959, in The Pas, Manitoba and grew up in Churchill, Manitoba.
Randy is remembered by his three loving children, son Brian (wife Megan), son David (wife Meaghan) and daughter Laura; sister Wendy Morton; brother Gary (wife Jenny); aunts Jeanne Lane and Mae Paterson; nephews Michael and Chris Morton; niece Dana Kalluak; great-nieces Mia and Addison Kalluak; cousins Wade Paterson and Wanda Lucas; former wife and mother of his children Cindy; and his precious grandson Dawson. Randy is also remembered by many other close relatives who loved him dearly on the Paterson's side, and his friends from near and far.
He is joined in memory by his parents Ray and Mary Wasylkoski; grandparents John and Mary Wasylkoski and grandparents George and Elizabeth (Bet) Paterson; uncles Steve, Lloyd and Bill Wasylkoski, and Mervin and Roy Paterson; aunts Anne Gebel, Nell Davis and Ruth Huxted; and cousins Ricky Lane, Glen Paterson and Kim Huxted.
Randy spent his life in the North - Churchill was his home. Throughout his career he worked as a security guard for the Town of Churchill and Port of Churchill. He also guarded for the RCMP and was a polar bear guard for Frontiers North. In his younger years, he was a volunteer fire fighter and an active member with the Churchill Canadian Rangers. Randy lived in Churchill his entire life before moving to Dauphin, Manitoba in 2024. Since then, he spent every day with his wonderful sister Wendy enjoying life and taking trips to The Pas to visit his dear Aunt Jeanne. Randy dedicated his time making cherishable memories with his three children, grandson, daughters-in-law, and extended family (The Riddell’s and McMullen’s).
From a young age to adulthood, Randy found immense joy and peace being in nature; the land was his second home. He loved adventuring on his skidoo and four-wheeler, hunting, trapping, fishing, wood cutting, and simply being outside enjoying the animals and scenery. He grew up playing sports, such as volleyball, baseball, curling, and especially hockey; he loved to tell stories of his hockey days. Randy found happiness in the simple things; “puttering” around the garage, going for truck rides and doing yard work. He discovered a love for music, spending countless hours downloading songs to listen to while barbequing and hanging out with friends and family. Randy always enjoyed a cup of coffee, whether it was sitting on the deck, at a friend’s cabin, relaxing with family, or fishing on the shoreline. He always had a smile on his face while drinking a nice cold Moosehead, chocolate milkshake and eating shanghai noodles.
He built many lasting friendships throughout his life. He was well known and liked by many people. He always enjoyed visiting with his friends and family, and always took time to chat with new acquaintances. Randy had such a kind and gentle heart that was shown through his endless acts of kindness, thoughtful words and small gestures. He was always willing to lend a hand, share a story, offer advice, and be a listening ear. He was a man of few words, but also a man of many words. Randy had a quiet side, his calm presence was able to make people feel warm and welcomed without needing to say much. On the other side, Randy was able to crack jokes with his witty sense of humor and cheeky smile, making people around him chuckle and smile. He could talk for hours telling stories, and never shied away from sharing his children’s accomplishments and voicing how proud he was of them.
He was an amazing, supportive, and loving father; his children Brian, David and Laura were always his number one priority in life, and he loved them dearly. He was a kind-hearted, silly grandpa “Papa”, to his grandson Dawson, who was his whole world, bonding over toy trucks, blowing bubbles and eating jerky. He was a wonderful, thoughtful brother, son, relative and friend.
His legacy will forever live on through memories and stories of all who knew him. Thank you for bringing so much love, laughter, wisdom and stories to so many people. You are forever missed and forever loved.
There will be no service as per Randy's wishes. Cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial will be held to honor his life.

We just read this lovely tribute! So happy we had the chance to meet Randy and hang out a bit while in LaSalle for the wedding of Wasy and Meghan. We could see how proud he was of his family and how happy he was for David and Meghan. What an incredible person...we could use more people just like him in this world! We are thinking of all of you, his dear family and friends and hope all the memories of the good times help to get you through the days ahead. Sending lots of warm hugs to all.

What a beautiful tribute. It’s evident how proud Randy was of his children and how proud his children were of him. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Wasy (David) and Laura through Meags and what a true pleasure it has been. Family is their core and Randy was an integral part of their daily lives. Randy did a beautiful job in raising such kind and beautiful children. He will be greatly missed by all. My condolences to the Wasylkoski family.

Randy has been a close friend for many years, made loads of hunting and fishing trips, he helped me build my cabin across the river. I still trout fish with the lures he sent me. it was always great to get a visit from him at the cabin. Randy was a hard-working, honest man. He will be missed.

What a beautiful tribute to such a kind man. I look back with such nice memories of the many conversations I was able to share with Randy. He was such a friendly and caring man, and I thoroughly enjoyed each conversation we had. It never failed that every time we chatted the conversation would quickly move to the topic of Laura, David and Brian. Randy would light up with pride every time he talked about them, it was clear how proud he was and how much he loved his family. My deepest condolences to the Wasylkoski family.

It’s hard to put into words my thoughts and feelings. While Randy was not on “my side” of the family, it felt so when we were with him. Him and I only got the chance to sit and talk together a few times, but every single time i was hugged and kissed and we raved about living in the north (and how obviously we both thought we were cooler than everyone because of it). Everytime im up in The Pas for work or passing over churchill, I’ll have the fondest memories of dancing at Was and Meags wedding and standing outside talking for what seemed like forever. xoxo, Regan.

My Condolences to the Wasylkoski family. I grew up with the Wasylkoski clan in Churchill. In my later teen/young adult years I spent time with Randy doing many different activities. We curled, played hockey, ski doo'd, played a lotta crib and drank a lotta whiskey at the cabin. So many great memories. You left us to soon Bud!!

I remember a time when I felt uncomfortable and out of place, Randy seemed to notice without me saying anything. He came over, sat and talked with me, and made me feel included. His kindness meant more than he could have known. Sending all my love to the Wasylkoskis. Randy will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the family. I enjoyed evenings with Randy sipping a cracked canoe while listening to his stories about his countless adventures on the land. I'll cherish monthly phone calls I received and all the outdoor knowledge that he shared with me.

I met Randy throughout Meaghan and David and was able to spend time with him during their wedding shower and the wedding weekend. Randy was kind and soft spoken man. In all of my interactions with Randy, it was clear how much he valued his family. In his speech at Meaghan and David's wedding, he talked about his love of family and excitement for all the wonderful times they had shared together. He was a calming presence and a wonderful man with a kind smile. He was welcoming to others and we were able to talk about how happy he was to gain another daughter in law in Meaghan. We will be missed so much.

We met Randy only a few years ago but our bond was deep and strong. It feels like we've known each other for such a long time. We've shared so many stories and good times in that short time together. Embracing Randy as David and Meaghan's love bloomed made that whole voyage even more joyful. We will miss him dearly and are so appreciative of the coffees, crib games and celebrations we were privileged to share. Our heartfult condolences..

I met Randy at David and Meaghan’s wedding, and over those few days we spoke a number of times. He was quiet, but warm and genuine, the kind of person who made you feel comfortable without saying much. I remember how proud and happy he seemed to be there with his family.
He told me about his work up in Churchill, keeping tourists safe from polar bears, and it fit the impression he gave—steady, capable, and quietly looking out for others.
Even from that short time, it was clear Randy was a good man who cared deeply about the people around him. I’m grateful I had the chance to know him.
