DOROTHY ANN WATERMULDER

(née Little)

September 27, 1950 – July 27, 2019

On Saturday July 27, 2019  Dorothy Ann Watermulder passed away at the Grace Hospital after a brief battle with cancer; she was 68 years old.

Dorothy was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba to William Henry Little (Deceased) and Dorothy Josephine Little.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter Diann Burke and son Anthony Burke.  Dorothy was a proud, loving grandmother to her three grandsons Wm Cyle, Noah and Kael and a wife to Husband Stoffer.

Dorothy grew up on the family farm in High Bluff, Manitoba with her parents and was the oldest of nine siblings; Barry (Joy), Sherry (Harold), Allan (Deceased), Marjorie (Deceased), Lori (Fred), Shelly, David (Jen), and Les. Family was very important to Dorothy, she was an aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, along with being a dedicated friend and co-worker.  She had a life-long passion for sewing and she was a real go getter. After retirement her love for her garden grew, as did her joy of volunteering. Dorothy knitted for different homeless shelters and gave her time to The National Association of Federal Retirees after retiring from her full-time position with Western Diversification.

Mom’s cancer came on quick and unexpectedly; she was taken from us way too soon.  Our family would like to express sincere and deep appreciation for her caregivers at the Grace Hospital who made her last days as comfortable as possible.

In-lieu of flowers, a cash collection bin for various animal shelters will be set up at her Celebration.

Friends and relatives are encouraged to share in a photo-tribute, eulogy, stories, and condolences for the family by commenting on the comments section of this page.

A celebration of her life will be held from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2019 in the lounge at St. James Lanes, 1805 Portage Avenue.

I'm so sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing.  We worked together for many years at Western Economic Diversification.  She was always pleasant to talk to and I still remember the sound of her laugh.  Always helpful.  I enjoyed hearing about her family and her crafts that she sometimes brought in.  Gorgeous work she did.  She was a talented lady with so many gifts.  My sympathies and prayers go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Dear Stoffer and the Watermulder family, As you gather to celebrate Dorothy's beautiful life today, please know that our Manitoba Chapter of The Shoebox Project for Women is so grateful and humbled by Dorothy's contributions to our organization.Dorothy was one of our most ardent supporters who provided beautiful and bountiful donations of toques, scarves, mitts, neck warmers, and kitchen sets that she knitted and gifted us with for the past 4 years...literally in the hundreds. Dorothy’s love and generosity has kept many a woman’s head, hands, and neck warm over these years and we are filled with sadness by her loss, and deep gratitude that she chose us to share her special talents and kind heart with. I hope she knew how truly special her gifts were.  Personally, I will miss her phone calls and emails to me, letting me know what she had in store for us, or hearing her excited anticipation of finds of beautiful yarn from another country, and of course, my eventual visits to pick up her donations.  Little did I know at the time, that her last call to me asking if I knew of another knitting group that would want some of her ‘excess’ yarn would be our last.  She simply stated that she would not be able to accomplish much this year as she wasn’t feeling quite well, and I assured her that we have been so grateful for what she has already done for us, and we’d look forward to her getting back on her feet and to ‘next’ year.  What I believe now, is that she knew there would likely not be a ‘next’ year, but yet she still wanted to share and give…a remarkable lady who will be missed by many for so many reasons. I like to believe that Dorothy has hardly seen her last ‘cast off’, but rather that she has another ‘knit and purl’ on the go right now! May comfort be yours in the memories of your beautiful Dorothy.. I was very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of your mother, grandmother and just a wonderful individual. I was a work colleague of Dorothy for many years....first at DRIR/NEDP, and then at Western Diversification until we retired around the same time.....a few years ago! I found Dorothy to be a wonderful person....very hardworking, loyal, reliable work colleague who was very generous but unassuming, indeed a very humble person. I still wear proudly the black winter scarf she engraved my initials, bath towels that she monogrammed for my wife and children as well as a golf towel. Dorothy was indeed a very talented lady.  May you be comforted by our good Lord in this time of sorrow and grief! My sincere sympathies to each of you ---- Dorothy's family whom she was so proud of..

So sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. I worked with your mom for many years at Western Economic Diversification. Your mom was fun to work with and was always willing to help and participate in fun work events.  I will never forget the good gardening tips she shared with me. We knew she loved to sew and often shared her hobbies with the staff. My deepest sympathy to your family, Lorraine Jacobson

Diann and Andy, my condolences on the passing of your Mom. She will be missed by many. She was always quick to volunteer and great team member . A kind and generous lady she often shared vegetables from her garden and many of us have dish clothes that she knit. She has left me with many fond memories and I pray your memories provide you with much comfort at this difficult time. Nicky Compton.
