RICHARD “KEITH” WATSON

February 28, 1945 – July 18, 2024

With love and wonderful memories, we celebrate the life of Keith who was born on February 28, 1945 and who left us on July 18, 2024.

As well as his parents, Joseph and Kathleen, Keith is predeceased by his brothers, Ken and Tom. Left to remember him with love is his wife Carole; children, Zachary and his wife Lisa, Erin and her husband Jerry, and their sons Masyn and Afton; dear sister Donna Kurbis and her husband Richard and family; brother Larry and his wife Tracey and family; sister-in-law Darcie Watson. Keith will be missed by Carole's siblings Ken, Janis and Greg, Glenn and Lori and their families.

Keith was an adventurous child, exploring the woods and the river banks near his home. Sports figured largely throughout his school years with high school provincial records set in shotput and discus. Any spare time was spent working on his pilot's license.

Keith and Carole began their amazing 56-year adventure with their marriage in 1968 and continued with the arrival of Zachary David in 1975 and Erin Kathleen in 1978. Keith was the ultimate hands-on Dad, involved in all aspects of their lives.

A 33-year career with Air Canada led to the formation of lasting friendships and involvement in baseball, curling and golf.

For more than 30 years Keith, Ray, Walter, Brian, Richard, Andy and Ron flew to remote lakes for their annual June Fishing Getaway. Keith now joins Richard, Walter and Andy catching the Big Ones!

Keith was a volunteer Firefighter and First Responder with the St. Andrew's Fire Department for 14 years, a longtime member of St. Andrews-on-the-Red Anglican Church, a volunteer for class events and field trips at St. Andrew's school (mostly being "voluntold” by Carole!). Keith was in the first group of shareholders of Granite Hills Golf Course and was pleased to play a role in its evolution.

Retirement brought the best adventures with winters in Thailand and fun adventures with Masyn and Afton.

Keith's family are forever grateful to the wonderful caregivers at Deer Lodge Centre and The Simkin Centre. They not only enriched Keith's life but also the lives of his family.

Keith's life will be honoured at a private memorial.

If you wish, donations may be made to Manitoba Brain Injury Association or Children's Hospital Foundation.

Keith’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Time does not erase the special memories we shared together in our early lives as friends. We smile as we remember Keith, a gentle man who had a wonderful gift for living and loving. Our heartfelt sympathies to Carole and family. May love surround you on this difficult journey without Keith. In love, we remember.

"Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end..."

Carole, who would have thought that Mary Hopkin's debut single released the year you and Keith were married, 1968, would hold so much meaning for the four of us!? This picture is only a small reminder of all the wonderful times we four have shared through our past six decades together. Keith will always hold a very special place in my heart: his smile, his wit, his gentle manner, and, that special mischievious twinkle in his eye, will be with me forever.

My family and I send our most sincere condolences to you, Carole, and to Zachary and Erin and all the family.

Thinking of you all as you say good bye to a much loved husband, Dad, grandfather, brother, friend. As former teachers we remember Keith from highschool, a big guy, a kind young man, much involved in sports. Then in later years that same kind, gentle, big joking guy. Bless you all as you learn to live with this new reality. May your wonderful memories sustain you.

It's a lovely obit.

I came across Mr. Watson's obituary by accident, but on further reading the write up and tributes I I realized Mrs. Watson was my Kindergarten teacher at Collicut School. My sincere sympathy for your families loss. Also please accept the indelible impact you had as me as a child.. My thoughts are with you.

Keith was a member of our family from the time he and Carole started dating in high school. We all enjoyed his warm personality and great sense of humor. He had a way of making everyone feel special but he especially shone when it came to kids, whether his own or others'. We will continue to miss the Keith we all knew for so many years and remember him with love.

I worked with Keith at Air Canada, on the ramp and commissary for several years. He was always a helpful, and fun guy to be around. I especialy enjoyed a couple of trips to our AC golf tournament at Falcon lake in Keith's Winnabago!

Rest in peace Keith.

On July 18, 2024 Keith passed away and our world changed. He was our close friend for more than 55 years. We have been together building the Watson home on River Road, travelling in Scotland, took motorhome road trips to North Dakota, together at Erin & Zachary's weddings, went on more than 30 special fishing trips and always celebrating Keith & Brians Febuary birthdays together ........ and much more. During all this time, Keith was a very special friend to us and will always be in our thoughts.

Sending our sympathy to Carole, Zachary, Erin and all the family.

Love and hugs,

June & Brian Sprott
