DONALD WEIGHELL
September 17, 1926 - January 30, 2018
Don passed away peacefully on January 30, 2018 at Riverview Health Centre.

His life was well lived, full of love, honour and integrity.

Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gail, daughter Donna (Stan), and three sons Patrick (Susan) Robert (Wendy) and Chris (Amanda), and grandchildren Alicia and Alanna, Jack and Jenna, Kyana Joey and Veronika. Don is also survived by his brother Keith (Wendy), and many nieces and nephews in Toronto and Alberta.

Don was born, raised and educated in Toronto. He had four brothers and one sister.

As a young man, he joined the army and completed his training just as the war ended and was discharged in March, 1945 at age 19.

He tried several jobs before starting at Canadian Press in Toronto and one day they asked him if he would be interested in filling an opening in Winnipeg. Once here, he applied for and got a job at CBC where he spent many happy years until he retired in 1983.

Don was always ready to serve the community, volunteering to be the president of Victoria Community Club while our boys played hockey there. He later volunteered to be president of the league for several years when we took up curling. He also became president of the Empress mixed bowling league. Don volunteered for eleven years on the executive for the Ingolf Campers Association and wrote their news letter for several years.

Don was a great family man. He especially enjoyed our cottage and friends and family at the lake.
We had a wonderful life as a family and we will all miss him greatly.

As per Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public service.

There will be a drop in Celebration of Don’s life at the family home Saturday, February 24, from 1 – 4 pm for friends and family.
