ELENORE INGRID WIELER

April 29, 1953- November 1, 2023

Elenore Ingrid Wieler crossed over on November 1, 2023 knowing that she’d lived a life full of love and joy. She had arrived at a place of deep peace, surrounded and supported in Spirit by all the many beautiful people in her family, circle of dear friends and church families in Winnipeg and Kelowna.

She was born on April 29, 1953 to Elsie Dyck and George Wieler and was the elder sister of Hannah Schoenfeld and Richard Wieler.

She attended school in Winnipeg, graduating from Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate in 1970, from U of W in 1976 with her BA (gold medal)  and Masters of Education in 1994 (U of M). During this time, she also studied piano and music theory taking Royal Conservatory exams to grade 10.

In 1975 she married her life’s partner, Roland Patenaude and they had one son, Noel born 1976.

Elenore worked in education for 31 years, teaching all grades as well as enjoying the administration posts of music coordinator, vice-principal and principal. When she retired from teaching in 2008, Elenore and Roland moved to her favourite place, Delta Beach MB, and then added two more favourite places, Kelowna, BC and Mazatlan, Mexico.

Family was her first love. She is forever grateful to her son Noel for the joy he brought to her life, and to daughter-in-law Victoria for her friendship as well as the gift of three beautiful granddaughters, Alberte, Ella and Jaden Patenaude.  Being Mom and Oma ranked among the most special of all her roles and living with the family in Kelowna was the most amazing way to grow even closer.

Music was another love. Besides studying piano, Elenore sang in school choirs, sang in and conducted choirs at First Mennonite Church and played in several bands... She performed at many special events with Roland and put on shows backed up by orchestration she programmed into her keyboard. In Mazatlan and Kelowna, they started performing with ukulele and guitar as well as singing in the choir at First United Church. Their balcony concerts at Delta Beach during covid were a special highlight of the ‘Delta Duo’ performances.

During the last months, when visits had to be short, many family members and friends brought food and flowers and most important, loving support. Many more stayed in touch with emails, allowing Elenore to enjoy her previous activities vicariously. There were so many people for whom she felt deeply thankful, which is a testament to the abundance of love that can be reaped in 70 years of a blessed life.

Elenore was deeply and forever full of gratitude for 49 years of love and life with the most beautiful man in the world- Roland Patenaude. Her last wish was that all people could open their hearts to love.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Central Okanagan United Church, 721 Bernard Avenue, corner of Richter Street, in Kelowna BC. The service will be broadcast on facebook live as well as on zoom. Information about attending on zoom can be requested at tanyap@centralokanaganunitedchurch.com

While I know this arrives a little late, Roland, please accept my heartfelt condolences. It has been a very long time since I have seen you and remember meeting Elenore only once or twice when you had just started dating. Best to you and your family. Take care.

Dear Roland, We are so sad to hear of Elenore's passing.  We are heading back to Mazatlan this February and wondered if we would see the two of you there. We were shocked to hear she had passed.  So sorry to just be hearing about this now as we certainly would have attended the memorial in Kelowna. Elenore was a very classy and elegant lady.  Her smile and spirit will be missed by all who knew her and had the privilege of meeting her.

Roland, Noel and family,  We are heartbroken for you, and to lose our very special friend Elenore. We so appreciated seeing her at Delta Beach and have been thinking of you every day since we heard this news. From the time we all met many years ago when you lived on Ashland, during that huge blizzard, she has been a true friend and inspiration.  We admired her for her positive energy, her intelligence and her many talents. We enjoyed so many times together through the years and we will always cherish those memories.  Above all, Elenore took great pride in her family and it was obvious that her love for all of you was unlimited. Roland, Noel and family we send you our love and we want you to know that Elenore will always have a special place in our hearts. She touched our lives in countless ways. Peace, love and strength to all of you.  Love, Heather & Peter and family ❤

I’m so so sorry to hear about Mrs Wieler’s passing. There are few teachers who stick in your heart, especially after graduation but she was surely one. I’ll never forget the day we spent visiting her the summer after graduation at their lake house - it was perfect. I’m so sorry to her family and will have you in my thoughts.

Roland, Noel and family - how very sorry I am to hear of your dear wife, mom, and Oma's passing!   Not having seen Elenore (or you Roland) singing in the church choir at 1'st Mennonite this past while makes sense now - you were happily enjoying being closer to your family in Kelowna!  As I reminisced, after hearing  of her passing, I saw how often Elenore's musical endeavors and mine intertwined over the years:  As many young girls at church, we joined the girl's choir; I admired and greatly looked up to Elenore at piano recitals as she played pieces I looked forward to playing someday; in later years we enjoyed working together with the children's choir (in which you Noel, and my daughters participated in) and women's choir, she as director, me as accompanist; I still  remember when she and you Noel, beautifully sang as a duet, Andrew Lloyd Webber's moving "Pie Jesu."  As neighbors for a short while at Sunset House, where you, Roland, and Eleanore lived just above me, I enjoyed overhearing the "Happy Birthday" chorus you sang to one of your precious grandchildren!  Elenore exuded a radiance that we could all enjoy and I am thankful that she was part of my life!  God be especially near you all as you mourn this very great loss!   You are in my prayers.

I too have been thinking about Elenore these last few weeks and wondered if she and Roland were at Delta.  I was going to email her....as Lara said perhaps her spirit was transforming through me as well.  I have fond memories of her at Oak Lake at her cousins house.  She trusted me to take care of her sweet Tante Louise for the time they went to Matzalan.  Elenore now is in heaven with her, as well as her folks and all the ones that went before her.  She will light up heaven with her precious smile and her talents.  We FMC-ers are going to really miss her-gone too soon.   We will meet again.

Dear Roland and family, Barry and I are so incredibly sorry to hear of your loss.  Elenore was a wonderful talented lady and so aptly named as she was a radiant light.  We will smile every time we remember the DDVL Christmas partly concerts and Elenore's rendition of Santa Baby.  So many good memories.  I bet Al is already asking her to sing 'just one more please'.

I was so shocked to hear of Elenore's passing. I am a member at First Mennonite Church in Winnipeg and I knew her both as a child and as an adult. She was conductor of the children's choir when I was a kid, and then in more recent years we sang together in the adult choir.  Elenore was so friendly, warm and loving. I always looked forward to chatting with her at choir, and she always showed a genuine interest in my life. I was sad when she moved to BC because I knew that I would miss her, but it was wonderful that she was able to enjoy her family and explore living in new places.  Just earlier this week I found myself thinking about Elenore and wondering if she would be coming to Winnipeg to visit soon. Perhaps I felt her spirit travelling as she undergoes this transformational time.  Sending lots of love to Elenore's family and friends as you navigate this very difficult time.
