RICK ARTHUR
FREDERICK WIENS

May 25, 1952 - March 26, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we say our final goodbye to Rick Wiens. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Deeply mourned by his beloved wife, Marianne; his children Mara (Tyler) Sattler, Alaric, and Xenia; stepsons Shaun (Melissa Gerardy) Duguay and James Duguay; grandchildren, Isla and Mason Duguay; siblings, Robin (Emilie Lagacé), Johanna, Linda, Barbara (Keith McKay), Kimberly (Bill Kerker), Kevin, Christopher (Lynn), Susan (Richard Ingimundson), and Sigrid (Tim Adelmann), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Nancy, and infant siblings, Richard and Cynthia.

Rick’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, especially taking them to restaurants and playing games. Watching Isla and Mason play hockey made him fall in love with the game all over again.

Rick had several careers throughout his life—surveyor, farmer, production manager, quality control manager, but his favourite was as a self-employed consultant and auditor. Rick enjoyed spending time with his clients and retired just last year. He made lasting friendships and was admired and respected for his integrity and dedication to excellence.

Those who knew Rick well will remember him for his love of travel, music, singing, reading, and red wine. He was happiest regaling family and friends with jokes, puns, and limericks. Rick loved to laugh and to see others laugh.

Cremation has taken place and no service is planned, as per Rick’s request. Well-wishers are encouraged to enjoy a glass of wine in his honour.

“If there's another world, he lives in bliss;

If there is none, he made the best of this.”

Our gratitude to the staff of Cancer Care and St. Boniface Hospital for their care and attention.

I'm very sorry to hear of Rick's passing. I remember him from the time I was at the weekend school. I recall we were on a rowing trip together. He was such a kind-hearted, good-natured boy, and I'm sure he remained so throughout his adult years.

Memories of Rick...seeing him play the penny whistle in performance with Simpson's Folly, seeing him play catch with his "nephew" (my son) Aidan on our front lawn, meeting for lunch in Spain, and being entertained with his array of accents, impersonations, anecdotes and limericks over many a fun dinner for 4 with Rick and Marianne and my husband and me. ❤️ Although Rick's life was cut short by illness, I will take some comfort in knowing that he lived a full life, he loved and was loved, and he was well-traveled. Cheers my friend!

Anthem

Ring the bells that still can ring,
Forget your perfect offering,
There is a crack in everything,
That's how the light gets in.

We will always remember sharing a glass of Rosé in the backyard sun. Thanks my friend, for sharing some of your favorite limericks:

A wonderful bird is the pelican,

His bill holds more than his belican.

He can take in his beak,

Enough food for a week,

But I'm damned if I see how the helican.

An amoeba named Max and his brother,

Were sharing a drink with each other;

In the midst of their quaffing,

They split themselves laughing,

And each of them now is a mother.

Phil, Laura and Aidan

I have known Rick personally and professionally since 1990. A great friend who also as a consultant helped me professionally. Laura,Aidan and I were very close to Rick and Marianne. Aidan regarded Rick and Marianne as his aunt and uncle. Our deepest sympathy to and Marianne and her family for their loss.

Very sorry to hear about Uncle Rick's passing. As one of his youngest nieces, I have cherished memories of visiting him and his family at the farm. I will always remember his voice singing and telling stories very fondly.

Sad news to hear of Rick's death. He was a few years younger but I remember him well from the first year of the day school (62/63). I can certainly see the likeness to his father in the photo. Condolences to the family.

Our deepest condolences on the loss of your loved one. I remember meeting Rick many years ago when he came to Ottawa to visit my late parents, Betty and David Wiens. Always wonderful for me to meet my cousins, I might add.
