ALWYN BARRINGTON WILLIAMS

October 30,1937 - December 22,2020

Sadly, the family of Alwyn Williams said goodbye on December 22, 2020 when he passed away, in the Health Sciences Centre, after a lengthy illness.

Al was born in Old Harbour, Jamaica in 1937 & immigrated to Winnipeg in 1963, attending U of Winnipeg. He then settled into a long career with Nelson River Construction.

Al & Doreen started their lives together in 1971 (almost 50 years ago) with her son Wade. Al's son Roger joined the family for many visits, special occasions, & vacations to Grand Beach, Florida & Jamaica. They were later joined by Al's sisters, Marcia & Sally from Jamaica. Sometime later followed niece Shannon who loved to call Al "Uncle Daddy" & nephew Shane who preferred just Uncle. Al's sister Norma settled in Florida.

He loved family gatherings with Baba & Bob, Joanne, Ray, Matt, Melissa, Sage & Shilo & Bev, Joel, Jay & Janet. There were many home concerts orchestrated by Roger which were enjoyed by all. Many good friends & their families were always welcomed such as Linda & Kris, Lorraine & Richard, Jo-Ann, Garnie & Pat, Charlene & Doreen, Clem Ed & Tony, etc.

Al's main hobby was sports" ANY & ALL" kinds as a spectator or participant. His two favourite teams were the Bombers & the Jets, never missing a game of either until the Jets left the city. He joined the Jets Booster Club with the WHA & enjoyed many road trips including a charter to Russia (hence the photo with the Russian soldiers). He loved helping to coach the Raiders track team & taking them to yearly track meets in B.C. Al himself completed 3 full Manitoba Marathons while in his late forties.

Al & Doreen were overjoyed when grandson Alexander arrived, spending almost every

weekend & vacation with him. Papa loved to take him to swimming, martial arts & cadets.

Every year there was a trip to Vancouver to spend a week or two & then leave Alex with his Dad for the summer. When Roger moved there the love affair with Vancouver was complete.

Wade & Mary came there for many visits from Australia & a good time was had by all. Al enjoyed seeing his old friend Daryl McHardy from Jamaica who was there as well. Roger was always amazed how quickly Al slipped into his patois as soon as they met. Al enjoyed meeting Wade's Vancouver friends especially Dave, Grant, Kevin & Christian

He also leaves behind niece Savannah-Re & husband Johann; nephew Ethan; grandnieces Kayla, Ameila, Ava, Aaliyah; and grandnephew Xavier.

Al was predeceased by his grandmother Mama Maude, mother Maymay, Daddy Rob, brother Lloyd, cousin Cece & his beloved son Roger.

A family burial service will be held in New Westminster, B.C. at a later date. In the meantime, Al’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. They also encourage the sharing of photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Special thanks to St. Boniface medical staff & to the Health Sciences Centre, Doctors  and "Angels" that took care of Al. Thank you also to Ruth the Spiritual Counselor,& to Dr. Ian Kasloff for his kindness & caring.

Al was a kind & generous man & instilled that legacy in his children.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice.

To my dear dear friend Doreen, words can't really express my heartfelt sympathy for you this past year, sometimes its the caregiver that needs the care. Al is at peace now and now time for you to take care of you. Big hugs , I am just a phone call away, talk soon.  Love Arlene

My sincere condolences. I have very fond memories of Al as a coach for Raiders...many good conversations. He will missed. In addition, I knew Roger from the fashion world and Wade (if you can give me a shout 204-430-4211) from track. To All the family, Al is in a great place, out of pain, and enjoying paradise...God would surely have said ‘Well done my good and faithful servant!’ Be Blessed Always ❤
