BRIAN LEONARD WILSON

November 23, 1946 - July 31, 2026

Peacefully on July 31, Brian passed away at the Saint Boniface Hospital at the age of 79. He will be sadly missed by his wife, June, daughters, Samantha and Sandra. He was the proud grandfather of Valen and Isabelle Clark, and Vincent Wilson. He was predeceased by his former wife, Ruth, and his sister Patricia Kowlessar.

Born to Mildred and Len Wilson in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The family resided in the River Heights Community where they were active members of Harrow United Church. Brian participated in many church activities in his youth.

Brian graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BSc in Agriculture, after which time he moved for a short period to Ottawa. Following this time, Brian lived and worked abroad for many years as an agriculturist in Malawi, Lesotho, and on assignment in Libya.  His former wife, Ruth, joined him in these travels, working as a nurse. They travelled extensively throughout Africa and Europe during his time.

On returning to Ottawa, Brian later resumed his academic studies, graduating from Carleton University in 1987 with an M.A. in International Affairs.

Throughout his life, Brian maintained contact with many of the colleagues and friends he met in his travels. He had a wide circle of friends, many of whom he had known since his early childhood.

Brian moved to Winnipeg in 2011 at which time he married his wife, June. They spent many years together wintering in Florida and enjoying cruise vacations with friends. Brian was passionate about cycling and in later years triking. He spent many happy hours riding on bike paths throughout Winnipeg and in the winters, around a gated community in Florida.

Brian will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Brian’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
