Norman’s life began in Central Patricia, Ontario.  His family moved to Winnipeg where he spent the majority of his life. As a young adult he attended Red River College to gain his apprenticeship as a Railway Carman. Norman had a great interest in history and read many books on numerous historical events.

He loved motorcycles and was able to buy himself a Harley. He lived his dream of going to the 50th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in 1990. Norman had a passion for collecting fine China and Diecast cars.  His dogs were an important part of his life.  He proudly competed in field trials for the Manitoba Gun Dog Association. At one time he was the President of the Manitoba Labrador Club. He loved sharing his interests with everyone who would listen.

He will be remembered as someone who always had something to say and loved having conversations with others. He loved his family.

Memorial donations can be made in Norman’s name to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Blvd. Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3P 2T5.

Thanks to the hard-working staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for the care Norman received.  Special thanks to Marie for being an important part of Norman’s life. Her care and love made his final years enjoyable.

He’s Gone

You can shed tears that he is gone,

Or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,

Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,

Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone,

Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what he would want:

smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I met Norman when I was very young and shortly after that I not only gained a step-dad but I gained 2 great brothers and an awesome sister. My love of music expanded to include classic rock which was his favourite kind of music. He always treated me like I was his own child. We had lots of fun over the years as a family and he’s always been my dad.  RIP dad ❤

What a beautiful tribute to your Dad.  He was a ray of sunshine in my life.  I will miss his hugs.  He introduced me to my love of labs and to this day I am still searching for the perfect one.

What a great tribute.  I love seeing Norman as a young man. The older man I knew briefly was kind, generous and thoughtful. He always had a smile and a story to tell.  He’ll be missed. 💙 Donna Boutang
