PETER WILSON
January 20, 1974 – October 2, 2026
On Friday, October 2nd, 2026, Peter Wilson passed away at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre after a very short battle with Cancer. He is predeceased by his father, John Wilson Sr. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Jennifer (Hiscock), sons Ryan and Ethan, mother Cecilia (Finnegan), brother John (Holly), brother Keith (Patrick), sister Sandra (Junior) and sister Marie (Gary).
Peter was born on Jan. 20, 1974. His family moved to Newfoundland from England not long before his birth, eventually settling in Clarenville, NL. Life in NL involved hockey, golf, salmon fishing, and playing pool. He was always very outgoing and was happiest when playing sports such as tennis, basketball, or softball.
In 2004 he married Jennifer and started working some shifts at the Come by Chance Refinery. He was blessed with his son, Ryan, in 2006. After some time travelling back and forth to Fort McMurray for work, he moved to Winnipeg to secure a job with the CN Railway where his brother John was also employed. There he welcomed his son Ethan in 2009.
His job at CN was always very fulfilling for him. He loved to be challenged, and the many opportunities CN provided him did just that. He enjoyed working with others and the comradery he experienced on the many work gangs he worked with. His motto was, “always keep moving forward”. He worked his way up in rank to eventually become a Supervisor of Bridges and Structures (Prairie Division).
When not working, Peter could still be found on a hockey rink or golf course. Only 4 years ago, darts became his passion as well, and he loved playing in the local dart league. If you ever met Peter, you never forgot him and he never forgot you. He prided himself on remembering names and getting to know individuals on a personal level. He cared deeply and lived by the belief that “we can always find time to be kind”.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Cancer Care Manitoba, and of the Medical Intensive Care Unit of the Health Sciences Centre, for their care and compassion.
A celebration of his life will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday, October 24th, 2026 at the Transcona Golf Club (2120 Dugald Road, Winnipeg). Later that evening we invite friends to gather at Rookies Sports Bar (201 Melrose Ave E, Winnipeg), to raise a toast to Peter.
We also invite donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Peter’s memory.

My deepest condolences to Jennifer, Ethen and Ryan. I am so troubled to hear this sad news. I know there is nothing I can say to make you feel better. Just know my thoughts and prayers are with you and that Al will be showing him the best golf courses and has already found the local pub.

Heartbroken you were taken too soon and that you'll never "Peter poke" me again. (nudge me with your elbow, grinning like a fool) Peter you'll be missed by so many people who loved you deeply. Rest easy brother.
