TERENCE “TERRY” ROBERT WOLFE

November 3, 1943 – May 12, 2024

Terence Robert Wolfe (aka Terry, Ter or GT), born November 3, 1943 in St Boniface, Winnipeg, MB to Sarah (Sally) and Robert (Bobby) Wolfe.

On Sunday, May 12, 2024, Terry passed away suddenly in his home. Terry will be missed by Debbie (Denis), Dustin, Danielle, and David; Tracie (Darren), Brayden, Sara, and Mckenna; Jaime, Oliver and Lily; Shawna (Chris), Pepper and Bowie as well as extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his older brother Dennis; and younger brother Pat. Terry celebrated his 80th birthday this past November, surrounded by family.

Terry was a long-time employee of Burns Meats, starting at 15 until his retirement after over 40 years. He was an avid curler, based out of the Heather Curling Club in Winnipeg. After his retirement, with spare time on his hands and, to the surprise of his family, he showed immense talent for woodworking and happily built furniture which he gifted to family members. His daughters still have a creation or two like a wooden bench or laundry basket and/or shelves. In his later years, he could often be seen tooling around in his red truck visiting his family and also on his trusty riding lawnmower in every season, either cutting the grass or snow blowing the back lane and sidewalks for himself and his neighbours.

Terry was a private, protective, particular and (for the most part) quiet type of man but you could really get him going on topics he was most passionate about like sports, politics, food and of course, his grandkids. His love was demonstrated by always showing up to celebrate family achievements, birthdays, holidays, and even just for company (invited or not) to visit and help fix things around his daughter’s houses. He could always be relied on to help but with the understanding that you may have to endure his muttering to himself while he worked.

Terry enjoyed breakfasts and lunches out with family and friends and frequented places including “the Norwood Chip Shop” (Dairi-Wip Drive In), Robin’s Donuts, and Johnny’s. Many of Terry’s favourite restaurants were places of comfort that held fond memories of times he enjoyed with his family and friends. Despite being a very quiet person most of the time, Terry enjoyed socializing at his favourite haunts including Boogie Nights, the Silver Spike, and the Marion. He forged relationships with “extended family”, friends of his daughters who he would frequently visit or attend holiday dinners with, and was always greeted with a hearty “Mr.Wolfe!”

His ponytail…. what can we say? He loved his long hair and wore it pulled back into a signature silver ponytail. He could also be picked out of a crowd by looking out for his trusty leather jacket, cowboy boots and 100% cotton tees.

His challenges with technology were legendary and switching from a land line to a smart phone exclusively, brought with it new challenges as he tried to navigate things like ending a phone call. This frustration sometimes resulted in accidental videos or voice messages featuring very colourful language, much to the amusement of his daughters and grandchildren.

In December of 2023, Terry had his hip replaced, thereafter referring to himself as the “Bionic Man” and continuously telling his daughters he was “ship shape”. While Terry healed from his surgery at home, he was happy to be spoiled by his family visiting and providing him with all his favourite foods and drinks. Home care provided essential care during this time and despite initial grumblings of not needing to be taken care of, he eventually looked forward to chatting about family and visiting or watching a Jet’s game with his new friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Terry’s home care team for the kind and compassionate care they provided to him.

His sense of humour, pats on the back in lieu of hugs, his crooked goodbye wave and, most especially, the distinct sound of his truck pulling up unannounced for a visit, will be deeply missed by those that love him. Terry’s life will be celebrated on Sept 5, 2024 in a private celebration with close family and friends.

Terry’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Mr Wolfe aka my second dad. Time stood still the day you passed away. Still in disbelief some days. I'm forever grateful I befriended your daughter Jaime so many years ago, 1991 I beleave. Who would of thought you would of been a big part of my life as well. I remember visiting you at work at burns, and all the visits to the house. I'm sure you got tierd of me at times lol. As all the years passed you became part of my family. From all the bbqs, parties, and Christmas dinners ( my favorite ). To seeing you at Jaimes house everytime I was there, our fired up talks of politics, hockey, and life in general....I am truly going to miss. Most of all this summer I have missed you coming out camping. You always came out to visit with my family and your daughter and grandkids. It is not the same at all. I'm so grateful we all got together for Easter dinner, not knowing it would be the last time. You will be forever missed in our house. Rest in peace dad. XOXO
