DONNA WONG
January 28, 1960 – February 26, 2026
...Cancer cannot cripple love,
shatter hope, destroy peace
or invade the soul...
Cancer invaded Donna's body and stole her life, leaving us with a sadness that can't be explained. Donna passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the age of 66.
Donna has left behind so many, many people that loved her dearly and she loved them back with the same intensity
Donna had so many amazing qualities. She was a kind soul, who always had patience and compassion for others. She was intelligent, funny, competitive, a quiet warrior, a thinker, stubborn, loyal, caring, loving and she could absolutely be goofy! Her love for life was at the centre of her soul.
Donna was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At age 3, her family moved to Winnipeg. She graduated high school from St. Mary's Academy in 1979. Her working life she spent mostly at Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). She started at WCLC in 1989 and retired in 2018.
Donna had many interests. She loved sports, both playing and watching them on TV. But Golf became her most beloved sport to play and watch. She played in a few Women's leagues here in Winnipeg and with good friends. And of course she played in Florida with her sister, brother-in-law and niece. She even got a hole-in-one at the Kissimmee Bay golf course, on the 13th hole! Her loyalty to the Winnipeg Jets was undeniable, when most would give up on them, she would be there cheering them on and doing her funny little dance when they scored/won.
She loved the outdoors, hiking, camping and going on canoe trips. She was a social butterfly, always wanting to get together with friends. Donna has also travelled to many countries around the world; Egypt, Spain, Austria, Costa Rica and Chile to name a few.
Donna had a love for dancing, there we so many fun nights dancing up a storm till the wee hours of the morning! She had a love for cars, especially her VW GTI. She loved all animals but dogs were her favourite.
Donna has lived a full life. She will be missed by many.
This poem is dedicated to all who loved her; to you from our beloved Donna
When I Go
by D. Ashworth
When I go
don't learn to live without me
just learn to live with my love
in a different way
And if you need to see me
close your eyes
or look in your shadow
when the sun shines
I'm there
Sit with me in the quiet
and you will know
that I did not leave
There is no leaving
when one soul is blended
with another
When I go
don't learn to live without me
just learn to look for me
in the moments
I will be there.
Donna, go and golf till your heart’s content and save a dance for each of us..
You are now a light that will continue to shine in our hearts.
We love you...
Donna's Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Unitarian Church located at 603 Wellington Crescent on Academy.

Donna,
I am grateful for having you as a neighbour and friend. We didn't spend a lot of time with each other, but I appreciate the moments we shared, usually out walking our dogs, making small talk. You always had a smile on your face and a kind word. May you receive all the blessings that you generously poured out on all of us. Rest in peace.

Donna, I'm so sorry I didn't say goodbye. We had such fun playing in those golf tournaments, always hoping one of our foursome would win a flight prize. You were a kind and patient friend, and I will miss you, and remember you with fondness..
Rest in peace....

Donna, you were a Friend, a Mentor, a Roommate and a Role Model to follow. You had that quiet strength and confidence i aspire to have. You taught me so much about myself. when I needed it the most.
I met you at a ski outing at La Rivière Ski Hill with volleyballs friends, where we connected at first sight. I feel privileged to have shared bits of the last 30+ years with you. I will miss you, but I know Sachi and Lucy were waiting to greet you… until we meet again ♥️

I met Donna in my younger years, when I was still finding my way in community. Donna was one of those people who left a lasting imprint simply through her presence—quietly confident, genuine kindness, and with a laugh that stayed with you. I’m grateful for the way she moved through the world.
Sending care to everyone remembering her.
