CONN WOO

August 25, 1936 – February 1, 2026

It is with deep sadness that the family of Conn Woo announces his passing at the age of 89 in Winnipeg. Conn passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

Conn will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Carol; his children Brian (wife Sharon, daughter Taya), Brent (son Harrison), and Nancy (children Matthew and Luke). Nothing brought Conn more joy than his grandchildren, who lit up his life in countless ways.

Born in China, Conn came to Canada at the age of 13 to reunite with his father in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. His journey later took him to Vancouver and across the country before he eventually settled in Winnipeg — the city that became his lifelong home. It was in Winnipeg that he met Carol, the love of his life, while they both worked for a catering service. Conn made an unforgettable first impression when he rented a striking blue 1963 Galaxie convertible to take her on their first date. Both the car and Carol remained in his heart from that day forward.

Conn had a natural passion for the restaurant industry and an exceptional talent for cooking. Every member of his family had a favorite dish that he made especially for them — food was one of his quiet, heartfelt ways of showing love. His care also shone through in small acts, like waking up early to help each of his children with their first paper routes. By the time Nancy took hers on, it had become more Conn’s route than hers.

A gentle, soft spoken man with a warm sense of humor, Conn loved to play harmless pranks on his co workers in his younger years. He later built a long and devoted career at Standard Aero, where he worked for 32 years, building a steady and loving life for his family. When he first began at the company, Carol was expecting Brian. After hearing about a new neighborhood, Conn drove to St. James, found the exact house he dreamed of for his growing family, called the number posted in the window, and arranged to buy it. That house became the heart of the Woo family — the place where Conn and Carol raised their children and where Conn lived for the rest of his life, watching his children and grandchildren grow.

His legacy is one of quiet strength, steadfast dedication, gentle humor, creativity, and profound love. Conn was an intelligent and naturally inventive man who excelled at problem solving. He crafted chairs, built clocks out of aviation parts, and could fix almost anything. Even in his final days, when he could no longer speak, Conn continued expressing himself by spelling out words — a testament to his determination and sharp mind. He was always ready to lend a hand and would have given anyone the shirt off his back.

Conn also had a deep appreciation for nature. He loved watching the birds in the backyard and cared for a large saltwater fish tank in the basement for many years. His patience and attention to detail allowed his fish to thrive.

Conn’s family will forever carry his memory in their hearts, grateful for the love, laughter, and kindness he brought into their lives.

you will be Truly missed uncle. I will always remember the smell of the pipe you would smoke, the huge bar in the basement that we could never go behind (we snuck back a few times. I blame Brian) the lion fish and eel in the 16' long salt water tank that you would always feed goldfish for us to see. The garage that housed the galaxie that looked the size of a ship with enough chrome to see yourself in no matter where you we're standing. you were always ready to talk about anything from food to any cars and of course the fish. We were so happy you said yes to driving us around on our wedding dat all those years ago. You and aunty gave me my best friend in Brian and I am forever grateful. Love you uncle conn.
