HELEN MARY WOOD

February 1, 1920 - March 12, 2022

The family of Helen Wood are sad to announce her passing on March 12, 2022 at the age of 102 years.

Helen will be greatly missed by her daughter Jo-Ann; son Tim (Brenda); grandchildren, Kris, Kyle (Lia), Kathryn (Jason), Ryan (Krissy), and Judge (Nicole); as well as great grandchildren, Tyler (Teressa), Hailey, Cayden, Mason, Finn, and Brooks.

Mom was predeceased by her husband George; granddaughter Jennifer; and sons-in-law Barry and Svend.

Mom had a wonderful life. We had a big celebration of Mom’s 99th birthday with family and many friends at Jo-Ann’s. We were able to celebrate her 100th birthday at Catherine Place. Unfortunately Covid, did not allow us to be with her for her 101th and 102th birthdays but she enjoyed all the cards sent to her as well as the birthday wishes on Facebook.

Mom was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan but spent her young years in Estevan, Saskatchewan. She married Dad (George) September 30, 1940. They moved to Winnipeg when he returned from overseas and retired from the Army. In 1972, Mom moved to Regina and then in 1987, they moved back to Winnipeg.

Mom got to travel to Disneyland, Las Vegas and Hawaii. She enjoyed time at Tim and Brenda’s home in Lac du Bonnet, going on the boat was a favourite. Time at the cottage with Jo-Ann and Svend, especially when the great grandkids were there. Mom enjoyed going to quilt shows with Jo-Ann and having lunch with Judge in Altona, after seeing that quilt show. Ryan and Mom loved watching football games together, especially when Regina and Winnipeg played.

Mom enjoyed going out for lunch with Jo-Ann’s Spit Sisters and the Red Hat ladies. And discussing curling with Bern and of course, her friend, Vi. Thank you, Vi for all your calls to Mom, reminding her that curling or football would be on.

Big thank you to Kathryn for all your visits to Grandma, especially with Frankie. We think Mom liked seeing Frankie more than she did Kathryn.

The family extends thanks to the staff at St. Norbert Personal Care Home, especially Lauren and Lisa. As per Mom’s request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

Sending my condolences to Jo-ann, family, and friends of Helen Wood. I had the wonderful pleasure of getting to talk to Helen. She always remembered and enjoyed our conversations that we had prior and would often ask how my ill cat was doing at that time. She loved making the craft I got her to do (silhouette girl with butterfly cut outs for the dress). She was quite proud of herself and wanted everyone to see this beautiful picture on her wall. I will always remember when doing her nails, I would ask what colour she wanted done. She would choose purple and say because "she's feeling wild". I will deeply miss Helen Wood. She was a terrific witty lady that always made me laugh. 💜💛💙💚 - Desiree (Recreation at St Norbert PCH)

Our most sincere sympathies to you Jo-Ann and your entire family. 😤Your mom had the privilege of living in two centuries. The twinkle in her eyes and her smile show her strength and resilience. I am sure she will be greatly missed.  Emilie & Aurele❤

My deepest  sympathies to the family of Helen .Vi and I(Gisèle) would visit Helen when she was at Catherine Place and always had a great time. She loved the little gifts of peppermint patties and popcorn and cookies. She would always walk us to the door with a big hug and don’t wait too long to come back for a visit. Then Covid happened and unfortunately our visits came to an end.Vi kept phoning her every day to chat and of course inform her of curling or football times so that she was ready to watch. She was a special lady and she will be missed 💕
