CAMERON LORNE WORTMAN

"CAM" , "BUMPA"

March 30, 1947 – August 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, MB surrounded by family, on August 5, 2024, at the age of 77.

Cam is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Leita; his daughters, Shauna (Andy) and Tanya (Jason); his grandchildren, Josh (Jade) and Brittni (Joe); siblings, Lynda (Les) and Sandy (Lorne); brother-in-law Roy (Bonnie); and beloved nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Cam was predeceased by his mother (Flo); father (Don); brother (Wayne); sister (Marilyn); brother-in-law (Rod); and nephew (Steven).

Cam retired from the City of Winnipeg after 30 years of service as a Senior Operator. Cam devoted a lot of his time to volunteering, enjoying and supporting his family and friends, particularly his grandchildren, in all of their endeavors. Cam AKA “Bumpa” loved and was so proud of his grandchildren, wearing the mispronounced moniker as a badge of honour.

Cam, always the champion for the underdog, spent many years as a shop steward, and served as Interim President of the CUPE Union 500, earning the designation of honorary life member. He was a passionate defender of worker’s rights that continued on well into retirement.

Cam was also a car enthusiast and member of the Manitoba Street Rod Association, entering his classic cars, Big Red a ’47 Chevy – and Ol’ Yeller a ’29 Model-A-Ford, into shows all over Manitoba with his daughter Tanya.

Cam enjoyed being surrounded by people and could always be counted on to keep everyone in the room laughing with his quick wit and storytelling. This was evidenced in the community organizations he was a part of throughout his life including serving as president of the Transcona Jaycees, Vice President of the Transcona High Neighbour Festival, and holding several positions over the years including Poppy Chairman, Deputy District Commander, and President of the Transcona Legion, where he volunteered much of his time. Cam took pride in being part of these organizations and relished the friendships he made over the years.

Cam’s legacy of laughter, volunteerism, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be truly missed.

Rest easy, big guy!

The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Palliative Care Unit (3 East) for the kind and compassionate care Cam received during his brief illness.

Cam’s Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on August 18, 2024, at the Transcona Legion Branch #7, located at 117 Regent Avenue East, Winnipeg.

Cam’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Leita and family. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Cam. Although I didn't know Cam well in person, I felt that I knew him through your stories and the times we shared at Brooks Equipment. Those were special years for many of us and I think of you and everyone often, and the memories we created.

Will never forget when Cam drove us for our 25th renewal of vows in his old car. It was truly an amazing and kind thing. He often referred to me as the kid even though I was a year older than him. A bunch of us drove to the Grey Cup in Calgary one year and he was my hotel roomy. Cam you will be greatly missed by all who knew and loves you.
