DAVID GERARD YOUNG

May 14, 1968 – December 21, 2023

David Gerard Young passed away unexpectedly on December 21, 2023 at the age of 55. He was predeceased by his mother, Annette (née Sayers) Young; and his father, Willis (Joe) Young. Dave is survived by his sister, Joanne (Pentron) Murray; husband, Dean; daughter, Breanne; and his spirit brother, Giri Sharma.

David was born in Winnipeg where he lived his entire life in the city and had no desire to live anywhere else. He worked in the service industry at several stores in Winnipeg. Dave enjoyed working in this environment as he loved interacting with the people he met. He was a frequent visitor to the Winnipeg Humane Society as Dave was never without a cat or two. David was very loyal to his favorite sport teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Raiders. He firmly believed that next season would be their season. He relaxed by building complicated Lego structures with the Titanic and Coliseum being his proudest achievements.

Cremation has already taken place. Internment will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave. Following the Internment, a Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00pm on the same day, at the Norwood Hotel, located at 112 Marion Street.

Donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be gratefully appreciated in lieu of flowers.

David’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Dear Joanne, I was sorry to see that your little brother has passed on much too young. I remember you and I taking him to a movie when he was a little boy. Even though it seems like yesterday so much time has passed since those days. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

It's taken me a entire year to put into words how your passing affected my life bro.

Dave was a friend and co-worker of mine at Sky for many years and I knew right away when I met him that we were going to get along, he was just that kinda guy.

I can say without a doubt Dave was a loyal and trustworthy friend and the epitome of a sports fan, I was always a little envious of how easily he connected with people thru sports.

I think we all miss him and his laugh (The entire Sharma family, George, myself all his friends near and dear and the hundreds of customers he faithfully served) and of course the fur friends!

Daves love for animals was endearing and it rubbed off on all of us, I never knew how much of a impact that would have on my life.

After Dave passed his cat Posie needed a home I took her in and I can't even put into words the ways that changed my life, it takes a pretty powerful soul to heal someone from the beyond...

Thank you brother.

I always thought when people leave us they left holes in our hearts, I realize now they don't.... they leave pieces of themselves, we aren't incomplete we just aren't the same.

see you on the other side Dave.

I had met David, while he was working at Sky Market. He eventually became of client of mine. He really enjoyed his massage appointments. Especially the feet massage. David was a wonderful person to be around. I enjoyed our conversations, he had at the store. He really enjoyed seeing Gaby come into the store. He will be greatly missed by myself and Gaby, rest in peace and see you soon.
