GEORGE SUREN YUEL

June 21, 1927 - December 31, 2025

With deep sadness and with family by his side, we wish to announce the peaceful passing of George Suren Yuel at the age of 98. George was predeceased by his loving wife Marlene, son Ken, daughter Kathy, son in-law Allan and grandson Aaron. He is survived by his children Doug (Kelly), Wanda (Phil) Siatecki, Gary, Duane, Dale (Barb) and daughter in-law Joyce. He was a much loved grandfather to Shawna, Scott, Chelsea, Curtis, Jeffrey,Jason, Taylor, Ally, Danielle, Derek, Angela, Evan and Maya. He will be mourned by his sisters Dorothy Russell, Joan (John) Walton, Joyce (Hugh) Monroe and brother Jim (Lisa) Yuel, as well as many nieces and nephews.

George grew up in Saskatchewan where he met his future wife Marlene while working on her father’s farm near Kindersley. They married in 1953 and George and Marlene took over the family farm. Together they set about farming and raising their seven children. In 1966 an opportunity to purchase a larger farm near Neepawa Manitoba came along and they took it. Restless with farming and looking for a change, Dad sold this farm in 1972 and moved his family to Winnipeg where they settled in the community of Norwood Flats. It was then, at the age of 42, that he enrolled in Red River College where he studied Power Engineering. Dad went on to have a 20 year career with the Manitoba Department of Labour as a Boiler Inspector. In 1981 he took a work transfer from Winnipeg to Brandon where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Mom and Dad thoroughly enjoyed their time living in Brandon. They made many new wonderful friends and reconnected with old friends from the farm days in Neepawa. Of course being in Brandon allowed them to be closer to Clear Lake where they spent the weekends at their cottage, boating and fishing and enjoying the company of his family.

After they retired George and Marlene spent winters south in Arizona, Texas and eventually Palm Springs. It was in Palm Springs that Dad and Mom were able to enjoy the winter with his brother Jim and sister in law Lisa. Dad and Mom also enjoyed trips to England, Denmark and Japan.

Throughout his life Dad enjoyed curling, golfing and watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He actively golfed well into his 90’s. Dad loved doing the daily crossword and chatting with his friends and relatives near and far on Facebook. He always kept himself up to date on politics and current events and will be fondly remembered for his storytelling, quick wit and sense of humour.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff, doctors and nurses at Extendicare Oakview Place for the exceptional care George received during the two years he was there.

In keeping with George’s wishes there will be no formal service. A private interment will be held in Neepawa at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

George was a kind man. It took very little to make him happy. If it was his coffee in the morning or the other little things. He had a sense of humor which everyone enjoyed. He will be missed dearly. And my deepest condolences to the whole family
