BEVERLY ROSE YUILL

(née CLARKE)

August 20, 1939- August 26, 2022

With sadness, the family of Beverly Yuill (née Clarke) announces her passing on the morning of August 26, 2022, at the age of 83.

Beverly is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years David, her daughter Janna Remond (Alain), and sons Dan and Duncan (Peggy). She also leaves behind eight adoring grandchildren (Stephen, Deanna, Amanda, Jaime, Lauren, Darby, Annika, and Grayson), six great-grandchildren (Nigel, Olivia, Jack, Rizzo, Arthur, and Louise), numerous friends and extended family. She was pre-deceased by her parents Jack and Dorothy Clarke (Smith) and brother Barry.

Beverly was born on August 20, 1939, in Winnipeg, MB. After finishing high school at St. James Collegiate, she followed in her father’s footsteps and found employment with the Manitoba Telephone System. Little did she know that a casual meeting in the coffee room at work with a handsome young intern by the name of Dave would lead to a long and rich life filled with travel, adventure, family, and friends.

On September 20, 1961, Bev and Dave were married and began life together in Steinbach, Manitoba where Dave was stationed with MTS. They spent the next 23 years of their life together in Steinbach where they raised three children and made many lifelong friends. In 1984, they bid farewell to Steinbach and moved to Ottawa and then finally back to Winnipeg where they first started out.

Bev loved to travel. Together, Bev and Dave visited every continent (with the exception of Antarctica). Their adventures abroad were often in the company of friends or family. Australia, Greece, Israel, Tunisia, Scotland, Tahiti, Thailand, and Guadeloupe are just some of the places they explored.

Family meant the world to Bev. She often went to great effort to do something uniquely special for each person. A lemon meringue pie for Dave, roast lamb for Dan, shortbread cookies for Duncan, and Welsh cakes for Janna. For her kids, she was a vocal advocate and guiding hand. Right to the end, she was always present to lend a hand or an ear.

Being a grandmother and then great-grandmother was one of life’s great rewards for Bev. She delighted in their presence and welcomed each of them with open arms into her home and heart. The love she felt for her grandchildren was equally matched by the love and affection they feel for her.

Aside from her family, one of Beverly’s greatest loves was time spent at the lake. What started out as a vacant lot purchased by her dad when Beverly was only four years old, became a cherished sanctuary that touched five generations. At the edge of the shore stood an enormous pine tree that leaned heavily toward the water. No one knew how old it was, and every year no one was sure if it would stand another year. But for over 65 years, the lake tree stood strong and was witness to cottages being built and re-built, the birth of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, marriages, and deaths. It oversaw hundreds of late-night card games, squealing children, sunset paddles, family celebrations and cardboard fish. It was at this place that so many memories were created that will continue to stand strong for years to come.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the palliative care team for their kindness and compassion in Beverly’s final months.

A service of remembrance will take place at 11 a.m. on September 1, 2022, at Charleswood United Church (4820 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB).

The service will also be livestreamed via Zoom for family and friends unable to attend in person.

We are very sad at Aunty Bev's passing. I remember her humanity, her kindness and her perpetual good humour. She always made us feel welcome whever we came and it was a pleasure to be in her company. I learned of her service to Hospice during the funeral, which I thought was moving, which adds another dimension to her humanity. I so wish I could have been there in person to give Uncle Dave, Janna and Alain, Danny, and Peggy and Duncan hugs. Thinking of all of you. Kevin.

Condolences to all Bev’s family 😢 💔 Dave, Janna, Duncan, Dan, grandchildren and great grandchildren 💐 It has been many years since last we saw each other. Last visit met Bev and Dave on Vancouver Island for lunch. Bev had made some welsh cakes, very tasty. Many memories growing up, their wedding, times at Rock Lake, family festive gatherings in Winnipeg and more. Bev had a quick wit, with her sense of humour teasing the younger cousins. In later years we all went different directions settling in homes in various locations across Canada. So Bev it is not goodbye, it is until we meet again ….💔♥️

We were so sorry to hear the news of Bev’s passing.  She and Dave were important members of the Cathurst Place family and we were saddened when they moved away a number of years ago.  Bev was always up for our social adventures - contributing with her experience, warmth, wisdom and wonderful sense of humour.  We loved her and will miss her very much!  Sending hugs and heartfelt condolences to Dave and the Yuill family.   Ken and Betty Newnham

Babysitting for Bev & Dave was always an adventure.  Janna, Danny and Duncan were curious and the boys were appt to get into trouble and could make me laugh.  Mrs. Yuill was upbeat and had a ready smile, especially when her husband tried to pay me with the change in his pocket for babysitting.  My two sisters also babysat at the Yuill house and often came back with stories with the 3 kids and their antics.  ❤  Hugs to the Yuill family and the memories you have given us, Grant and Sheila McVicar
