Roy was born on July 5, 1949 to Margaret and Leonard Cuddeford in Kelowna, British Columbia. He was the second born to the family, joining his older brother Donald and later joined by a sister, Cheryl. He grew up playing sports, excelling at golf, basketball, rugby and baseball.
